Hello Everyone, I have read in some briefings that when a Company has more than 10 female employees, it is mandatory to hire a Female Security Guard. However, I cannot find that in the Act. May I request help on this please?

Hi Cpanikker,
Though I am not aware of any act stipulating to engage certain no.of security guards where women are employed, govts. have felt the need of engaging adequate no.of female guards for obvious reasons. However, I'm not sure of any action taken by other govts., but the Govt.of Karnataka stipulated that a Sr.Executive as 'Security Officer' to oversee the operations in providing transportation to female employees w.r.t. IT/ITES/S&T sector involved in night shifts. This has been effective as more and more molestation complaints are being reported in the media. In this regard, a circular issued by the GoK is attached which is self explanatory. Also refer the handbook published by the Govt.of India with regard to enforcing measures in line with the central act against sexual harassment of women in work places which is available in this link.-

That apart, think of a need for women security guards in work places, especially conditions where frisking is necessary & stipulated, usually high risk security areas like, airport, railway stations, hospitals etc. In these conditions would it be advisable making a male guard to do the frisking of female, either with a metal detector or by hand. We see frisking in many factories, industries, shops etc. as a routine despite presence of CCTV. Therefore deploying certain no.of female is the need of the hour where women are employed.
