Sir, Please let me know how long attendance and Leave registers should be preserved for EPF & ESI purpose. Is there any provision/rule in this regard? N.LOKANADHA BABU

There is no time limit under PF Act (Section 14 B ) while it is five years for ESI Assessment. The better course would be to get the establishment inspected by the respective inspectors periodically and obtain a clearance from them of due compliance. You may have to pursue a little but it is worth it when you are fully prepared for it, rather than their Inspectors knocking on your door suddenly and surprises you.

Dear LOKANADHA BABU ji,
You need not to preserve attendance and Leave registers for EPF & ESI inspection purpose. You need to preserve BS & P/L statement and supporting to it such as salary sheets, ledgers & vouchers, documents pertaining to PF & ESI payments & compliance, etc.
Our learned member KK!HR righly said that for ESI you need to keep the record for 5 years. PF there is no such time limit. You have to keep the records since beginning.
However, now there is no periodical inspection by both the departments as it was earlier. You can not offer yourself for inspection. Inspections are now carried out by through LIN / Shramm Suvidha.

Labour laws require attendance and other records to be kept for a period of 3 years from the date of the last entry in it. ESIC requires it for 5 years. Then you can destroy it ....
