Can anyone please tell me why is Rs.3500 given as medical bonus under the Maternity Benefits Act?
Medical Bonus is a lumpsum amount, Rs 3500, given to to the employee for meeting prenatal and post natal care expenses. If the company is sending a nurse, ayah or a midwifery trained person to the place of employee to assist the employee then no medical bonus is required to be paid separately.

Not taxable because it is like reimbursement of expenses met by the female employee for her natal care
Hi Sir can you please guide me when to disburse the Maternity bonus amount. Is it during the last month payment cycle of maternity leave or after resuming the duties?
The Act does not say when it should be paid. Since it is a one time payment and not payable every month, you can pay it at your convenience.
If the employee is covered under company mediclaim insurance. Do we still have to pay the medical bonus?
In case of Haryana as per Haryana Maternity Benefit Rules, 1967 we are to pay medical bonus along with second installment of the maternity benefit. Plz refer to Rule 6(4). For other states one can go through Maternity Rules in the matter.

If the insurance company is providing prenatal & post natal care free of charge then the employer is not to pay medical bonus to the women employee. R N KHOLA
