The lay off is a temporary phenomena and the laid off employees have the right to be called back in employment when the lay off is lifted. They are entitled to lay off compensation. The period of lay off is included as period of continuous service for gratuity purposes. During the period of lay off, the employer-employee relationship continues with the laid off employee and he is entitled to all he benefits and services as applicable to other employees.
