I am in my 70s and have had put in 32 years of service as HR head started with textile, Cement and retired from an MNC manufacturing, automobile ancillaries.
The paradigms shift in our job profile of early Labour Officer to Industrial Relations Manager then Human Resources Manager, have put in more responsibility in organizational goal achievement vis-à-vis Human Resources Goal.
However It is heartening to note and like to express my feelings / concerns that, some of the percent young HR fraternities is spoiling their image of ‘Human Resources Department’ through their conduct . Though they are well paid, they do concentrate more on commission/ kick back/ bribe, from all contractors, involving man power (Security, Canteen, man power supply and other resources arranged through HR Manager). Their kick back earnings are much more than the earnings of from the company. This happens mostly in private joint venture companies / industries.
Presently the MNC have resorted to number contractors, even for production jobs. The more man powers are hired, through different contractor, the more the HR Manager has powers to negotiate / coerce the contractor’s to pay more kick back.
I suggest the Tax authorities should make a note of such misappropriated / disproportioned income beyond their authorized source of income. I also propose to organize a campaign against this through an appropriate forum.
This earnings are no longer, long lasting, rather I suggest HR fraternity to concentrate on more task orientation, the inculcation of culture of competitiveness, culture of performance. Culture of ownership, culture of innovation would help a long way. Earn through performance bonus. There is a saying “take care of your people; they will take care of your business”. One day or other, if they are exposed, they will have no face before your people.
I hope HR fraternity should take it in the right perspective, and let us take an oath to avoid such earnings, as the same certainly would not stay long.
