Dear Seniors, We as a group of Managers been asked to present few insights on "Improving Productivity". Everyone has started preparing on how to improve, why to improve n etc but I being a HR person wanna throw a different thought where other managers (participants themselves) will think through and try to enrich the learnings out of it.
This concept of giving presentations n sharing ideas is to develop ourselves from the learnings of others. I would like to seek your thoughts to make this discussions more meaningful.
Thanks in advance.

Dear Anonymous,
You and your managers have been told to come up with ideas on "improving productivity". Well gentleman, before improvement comes the measurement. Therefore, the pertinent question is whether you have measured scientifically:
(a) turnaround time for the important processes of each department
(b) costs associated with each department
(c) ratios associated with each department
(d) consumption of resources by each department
You have mentioned that you are HR Manager but then what is the nature of your industry? What is your service or product? How many departments are there in your company? Do you have office only at Chennai or you have multiple offices?
I am into training and consulting. I have an excellent simulation that will help you in generating ideas to improve productivity. If you hire my services, then be assured that after the simulation, whole lot of new ideas will be generated. I have conducted this simulation so many times and my each client was delighted. I assure similar delight to your company also.
Thanks,
Dinesh Divekar

Dear Anonymous friend,
It is my request while you come for discussion come with identity> otherwise it gives me an impression that as if we do something for the ghost, never mind.
In general we understand productivity as: the effectiveness of productive effort, especially in industry, as measured in terms of the rate of output per unit of input. But it is not all about productivity. Already Mr. Dinesh Divekarji has given an out line and inputs.
The productivity is of very complex nature and it is interlinked with several factors and department accross the industry. Productivity depends on performance of man, performance of machine & input of capital. Before going direct into action you need to go for a survey, to understand where you are lacking and affecting production. The ultimate production at end of day or week or fortnight or month shows productivity. This is a collective approach, involve all the departments directly or indirectly involved in the process.Hope this will guide you to start-up.

Dear
If you are in manufacturing Company the following may suit. Before going to the subject find the following.
a) Find out the Plant capacity and order position per day
b) align all the production activities by arriving individual work norms through time and motion study to match the plant capacity. Find out the resource gaps and discuss with the management. If feasible arrange the resources either in house or outsourcing. On Completion go for individual incentive scheme to motivate the workers. Here you have to motivate both direct workmen and indirect workmen like support services. Any assistance required happy to help you.
