Recruitment is an interesting job. One needs to be very analytical, adaptive & social to be a successful recruiter. To fulfill Hiring Manager’s expectation you connect to hundreds of professional over phone, video chat or personally. In my last post I have discussed about taking up Recruitment as Profession. Today let us discuss on simplifying the process of recruitment.

Recruiters once getting a mandate learn about the job details and start sourcing the best fit candidates. We put all our efforts to provide best option to our clients. In this race of providing best candidates with utmost speed we forget the most important point in recruitment –The Hiring Managers. Recruiter must connect to the Hiring Manager and try to get an outline of his/her dream candidate. This small conversation with the hiring manager simplifies the task of recruitment. I really appreciate some of my clients who directly arrange a recruiter’s discussion with the hiring manager, but many of my clients are still reserved in fixing up this discussion. I believe there will be many legitimate reasons for not setting up this discussion; in this situation recruiter must spend some time in knowing the Hiring Manager. Researching on Hiring Manager will result in fast recruitment.

4 points Recruiter must know about the Hiring Manager for easy recruitment:

Quality is a secret ingredient of success. One can never excel in his/her career without quality work. This golden rule is applicable in Recruitment as well. Yes you read it right “Quality Matters In Recruitment”. Quality candidates can be a major contributor towards organizations growth. It is a very proud moment for recruiter when your client’s comment saying “the candidate you placed is doing extremely well and he/she has now turned out to be an asset of our organization”. These comments make you realize the Importance Of Recruiter

Recruiter selects some keywords from the mandate and shortlists the profiles with maximum keywords in it. Once you shortlist the profiles you connect to these candidates to check their interest on the role you have for them. Recruiter assumes that the matching keyword on profile automatically qualifies the candidate for this role. Next thing you do is to focus on convincing the candidates for the role. Upon listening “yes” from candidates you share their candidature with your client. Working this way you can have a good number of candidates to share with your clients, but the chances of getting that one candidate who will get selected is very less. The process which you followed for shortlisting the candidates were all wrong.

Recruitment would have to be the biggest business in India today, judging by the posts here on CiteHR.

Every day we have posts from people setting up recruitment businesses. There are just not enough people looking for jobs to sustain this level of businesses.

I will guarantee that 99.8% of these people HAVE NOT done a SWOT analysis, and focussed on just how many competing recruitment businesses are located on their street, in their neighborhood, and in their city or town. At the end of the day you are competing for the same few job seekers as every one of your competitors.

By the same token, every one of these businesses is pestering the life out of HR Managers in every other business in the local area, trying to get their recruitment business.

At the end of the day, you have got to get punters in the door who are seeking work, and you have got to find job vacancies to fill. When you are not making any money, all this finding the best fit client goes out the window. You need to place people in any job you can find to get cash flow. And yes, that will backfire, and destroy your business. I have seen it happen time and time again.

DISCLAIMER: I hate Recruitment Agencies.

In my working life, I never found a recruiter that could (a) tell the truth, (b) send me the sort of candidates I requested, and (c) offer me any sort of customer service.

I used to provide a very detailed Job Description and Person Specification to the agency. They always assured me they had the right people. And when it came to the crunch, what sort of people do you think they sent me? You guessed it!

I ended up have lots of robust discussions with these people for failing to deliver on their promises.

I tried big name recruiters, and small boutique recruiters. Not one could deliver the staff we needed.

Those of you who have been with CiteHR for some time will know me. I have posted on this topic many times. I have repeatedly told you - recruitment is not rocket science.

In the end I developed a simple 6 step process for recruiting, and we wiped the agencies. I trained the staff, and managers in the process, and we were very successful in recruiting the right people for our organisation, and reduced our attrition rates significantly.

We have endless posts about recruitment problems, staff attrition, candidates not taking up offers, etc, etc.

In the end, it all comes back to RECRUITMENT. Get it wrong, and you will never solve your problems. That is one promise I can make to you.

Thanks for reading my post. Its very unfortunate that your experience with Recruitment companies are not good. I agree everyone's opinion on differs on every topic. Recruitment is not the biggest business in India, but its one of the fastest growing & biggest business globally. You see Recruitment companies at every street because it requires less capital investment, but the Talent & Energy needed to deliver is ignored by many including clients & candidates. This is the main reason why Recruitment companies shutdown in a jet speed too.

At times providing exact candidates to clients requirements becomes a challenge. Trust me this is not a easy task as well. Sourcing 90- 100% relevant candidates to clients requires a lot a screening. I feel only a recruiter who have been trained well can do this job accurately. Hence I may not like to degrade Recruitment Companies but I would say every recruitment companies must strive hard to deliver quality not quantity. Every industry has some good players and bad players in them, & i really don't advocate this policy of categorizing the entire industry based on your personal experience.
