Dear All,
I am working in a manufacturing company and now we are planning to take OHSAS 18001 certification. For that certification in our procedure the OH&S objectives and targets required. I have some Objectives but i don't know how to achieve that.
Kindly give the action plan for achieving the following objects;
1. Reduce the LTIFR
2. Safety Training
3. Reduce knife injury

Dear sherin,
All the mentioned three points are considered as Targets, Not as objective.
Common objective for safety departments
1. To achieve and maintain zero Incidents in work place
2. To Identify and comply all applicable legal requirements
3. To achieve golden peacock safety award for factory.
Based on the objectives, we need to prepare a programs with target date and time bound action plan.
points to remember while preparing Targets and programs
1. Objectives and targets shall be measurable
(Ex: Reduction of Incidents from 100 to 10 nos, To increase Trained first aiders team from 30 to 50 etc.,)
2. Source of Objective ?
(Ex: Risk assessment, Legal requirements etc., )
I hope you got an idea now for creating Objective, target & programs.

Hi Sherin, I have few comments on your plan that you may like to consider.
Review of past three year incident data is a good step. However, unless the investigation are robust (done with intention to fact finding and not fault finding), you will not get much from the analysis of causes of these incidents. I am afraid, incidents related to knife injuries will easily be passed blaming the operators (inattention, carelessness etc).
Your plan should include identification of all activities involving use of knife and conducting a basic risk assessment of these activities.
Risk assessment should identify opportunity to mechanise the cutting operations and elimination of the knives.Where it is felt use of knife is inevitable, you should consider proper design and personal protective clothing as feasible.
Hope this helps.

Dear sherin,
Valuable suggestion from kulakarni sir.
If there are repeated Knife Injuries, It means that Poor Investigation and failure of fact/root cause Identification in Incident. If you consider the following thing as Objective, there is no use. Until unless your team Identify root cause of Incidents.
Apply 3 M (Men, machine, Material) method in Investigation process for fact finding.
In earlier post i had prepared a sample format. Refer the earlier post & prepare your programs
With out having baseline Information, programs cannot be designed.
