We are in the process of introducing the Employee Referral Scheme in our Company. Our Company is a UK based Risk Management Firm, based out of Gurgaon, mainly into Business Consulting and Background Screening.
At present we are 90 employees in the Company and plan to grow to 150 employees by the end of the first quarter '08.
The levels we have in the Company are:
Basic Level
Middle Level
Senior level
I'd like to request your help in regards to deciding the % or amount of reward that should be paid to employees referring a successful candidate at each level.
I'll even request if someone could share thier existing Employee Referral Scheme document with me.

Dear Sonia, You can put Rs. 2K as Interview/Joining Bonus. This bonus will be given 50% to Referee & 50% to joined candidate. Pandurang More Aurangabad

Do you mean that we share the referral award between the referee and the person who has been refereed and joined consequently?
Is this a normal practice in industries?
I would appreciate help in case if you are aware of a scheme wherein for different levels in the organisaiton, the referral award is paid accordingly viz: for executives 2K
for middle managers: 3K
for sr. managers: 5K

The employee referral scheme can only be successful if the rewards are motivating. Hence care must be take while deciding the rewards.

Few points need to be considered while formulating a Reward Scheme:

1.The present CTC at all levels

2.The amount payable if the position is filled through consultants.

3. The time frame when the amount will be paid.

Based on the above 3 points, a suitable scheme can be derived.

You could decide the reward amounts based on the level of the selected candidate.

E.g. 1 month gross salary (8.33%) for Sr. level

1.5 month gross salary (12.5%) for Middle. level

2 month gross salary (16.67%) for Junior. level

The % order is inverse due to the higher CTC of Sr. and Middle level.

Usually the Amount is to be paid once the selected candidate completes 3 months or is confirmed i.e 6 months.

And incase he leaves the company no reward should be paid.

There may be a rider that a Senior cannot select his own subordinate or vice versa.

Relatives references may be discouraged.

In normal practise, the Reward is payable only to the employee who refers the candidate and not the referred candidate.

Dear Supriya,
Kroll is a UK based Risk Management Company that has been taken over by the American giant MMC in 1990s. The India office we have mainly caters to the Background Screening & Capital Intelligence divisions of Kroll.
At Kroll India, we match the UK practices in our company. As per the UK standards, all jobs are first put up for IJP and then only put for external recruitments. HR is an opportunity that most of the employees want to enrol in. We are presently having an HR opening but it has been put for IJP. We are having 10 strong applicants.
In future if we have an opening, I'll share the same with you.
