Dear All, I had resigned my job suddenly without notice period 2 months back due to accident. I informed my boss about my accident also said that i wud like to resign my job. Boss accepted my resignation also cleared my due payment. We will have 2 shifts job like 1 week morning shift and 1 week afternoon shift. Now i have recovered somehow, i would like to rejoin but i can do only fixed morning shift job because when we have afternoon shift, we have travel in the night... night i couldn't be able to travel as i have met with accident during that time. Also i come from long distance in heavy traffic. If my boss accept my request i would like to rejoin only morning shift... Friends i need a letter on this topic to my boss.

Dear Maggi54,
Unfortunate to note about your accident. Wish you speedy recovery.
You wanted to rejoin with condition that your past employer should give you morning shift. But then have you confirmed that vacancy exists? Have they not employed anyone as your replacement?
When did you meet the accident, when did you resign and what was your last working day? What kind of job do you do in the morning or afternoon shift? Does it require any physical labour? Are you physically fit to resume your duties? Have you acquired medical fitness certificate?
We need this information as it needs to be included in your application.
Thanks,
Dinesh Divekar

Dear Maggi54,

The required draft is as below:

+++++

Date: -

From: - _____________ (name)

___________

___________ (address)

To,

The Managing Director

__________________ (name and address of the company)

Application for Reemployment for the Post of __________ (designation)

Dear Sir,

1. I was employee of __________ (name of the company). My employee No was ___________ and my designation was ___________. I left the company because I met with an accident on __________. Since my physical condition did not allow me to work, I had to resign from my job. My last working day was ______ (date). Notwithstanding my abrupt exit because of the unforeseen reason, overall I had worked to the satisfaction of my seniors.

2. Now my physical condition is improved and I am capable of working. I have attached medical fitness certificate to this application. I am given to understand that vacancy of my position is still lying vacant. Therefore, may I request you to consider my candidature to fill this post? Because of my resignation, now there is a break in service. Therefore, it will be a fresh employment.

3. I have family responsibility and continuation of my employment is important to me. By and large I have recovered however, some marginal improvement of my health is still pending. It will happen in coming weeks. Nonetheless, without waiting for complete recovery, I need to strike balance between working conditions of the shift and my present medical condition. Therefore, in addition to the reemployment, I request you to give me chance to work in morning shift till ____________ (date). I will be highly obliged to you if you could accept this additional request too.

Warm regards,

_____________ (Signature)

Dear Maggie54,
It is juniors who are supposed to provide the drafts of the letters to the seniors and then seniors correct them. Once a senior provides a draft, taking clue from it and proposing a corrections is not at all appreciated. If you were that capable then why you did not provide the draft in the first post itself?
Not just grammatical mistakes, there is inherent flaw in your draft. It appears that god has blessed by not making you to work under seniors who are prissy on quality of the English. Anyway, there is no point in educating you. Please go ahead the way you wanted to.
Thanks,

Hello Maggi54,

Without getting into the semantics of what Dinesh Divekar mentioned or suggested or his draft letter, a few points that I think you need to bear in mind while handling such situations.

First & foremost, some DEADLINE/TIMELINE needs to be given when you are asking for some special favor from your manager. It just can't be a lifelong favor. Even though your Manager is OK with it NOW, pl note that this can boomerang on you later.....this manager CAN surely change his job & the new manager is NOT bound to extend the same favor to you.

Secondly, mentioning any sort of night-time travel.....as a permanent favor for life.....is counter-productive to YOU. That's for YOU to figure-out how to handle. And pl note that there are so many disabled persons.....both genders.....who travel a lot for work. And this includes in the very city you now live-in.

IF this is indeed a very serious issue to you, either change your home closer to this office OR look for another job nearer to your home.

You can't expect to live-off the pity of others life-long.

And as far as attaching the Medical Fitness Certificate is concerned, it's YOUR responsibility to protect your boss. There is always a chance he MAY be questioned later on the basis for taking you back. Remember that you are dealing with an Organization....NOT with an individual--your boss just happens to represent the Company here.

Just because your boss won't ask for it doesn't mean you have to take things for granted.....leaving the possibility of putting him into trouble just because he agreed to help you out [not sure how you would term this attitude, but in general, it's called 'using people'].

And last but not the least, 'small' OR 'big'......in the context of the letter.... doesn't mean you can give the salient aspects of the case a miss. The focus needs to be to cover ALL the points & NOT whether the letter is small or big or large or supersized.

All the Best.

Rgds,

TS

Dear Maggi,
I completely agree with Dineshji..
It would have been better if you would have sent the draft in the first place.. Seniors would have corrected it.
You expected a ready made letter and now you want it to be simple note.
How does it harm if you write a proper formal letter with all the dates and other details? Since this is an official matter, might as well send an official letter which will be helpful for the records too.
Anyway, its up to you to decide...
