Respected Seniors,
I would like to have your guidance. I am working in an FMCG COMPANY as an HR Ex. for 10 months. I have been selected by my Head to deliver a speech to the 1st year MBA students in a college. And since it is my first time, I m bit nervous and directionless too. I have been told to explain them the motivation theories with reference to the culture it is in my company. As per me its Theory Z. but i dont know how to start the speech and what steps should i follow while doing so. it shold be so that doesnt seem like a daily mgt. lecture and should have branding of our products too. i also have to share the good HR practices followed in my company.
Would request you to please revert.. I have 2 days to prepare!!
Thanks in anticipation.

Dear Aishwarya,

First and foremost, in B-schools seniors go and give lectures and not juniors. How come B-school has accepted you as speakers is not understood. Are you MBA? If yes, then did you do it regular course? If yes, then did you attend such lectures? If yes, then who were the speakers? Some junior executive or someone who is just few more years than the students? Above all, you have just completed just 10 months in the company.

Second one is about delegation by the HR Head. Your HR Head has not understood who to delegate and what to delegate. Above all why need was felt to come to public forum and seek advice rather than asking HR Head itself? Neither it occurred to your HR Head to discuss with you about points to be covered in your speech.

Anyway, if you feel the internal administration of your company is as per Theory Z then I recommend you creating list of the examples in support of this theory. Obtain few more examples from other managers. Have one practice session in front of your HR Head and then deliver the speech.

Anyway, your post shows that your Head HR needs some lecture on the topic of delegation. Sooner he attend it the better!

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar
