"Sabbatical leave" is granted when employee wants to pursue some higher study. On completion of the study, he/she can rejoin. Companies provide sabbatical leave so that employees can pursue higher education and when they rejoin, the employee knows the cultural of the company very well. However, your case is different. The employee cannot join the duties due to medical problem. Then why not keep the employee on the rolls of the company and not to remove him/her? Employee can have "Leave Without Pay" (LWP) as many days as his/her company ready to spare. Since there is no payment to the employee, there is no question of payment of PF, ESI or PT.
