Dear John,

You can identify an industry benchmark and pay according to it. Alternatively, you can decide upon a budget, define bands-levels as per designation, and allocate funds to it.

Here's an example: when your entry-level employee is traveling, offer him railway/bus fare and stay at budget hotels. When your managers are traveling, offer them railways and airfare along with a stay at 3-star accommodations. Likewise for your senior executives.

If your firm has a process for arranging the tickets and stay, offer a per diem for food, traveling within the city for work, and other expenses. A minimum of Rs. 1000-1500 per day would be required for metros, and Rs. 800-1000 for Non-Metros.

Please keep convenience in mind, as you would like the employee to remain focused at work. Hope this helps.
