Dear John,
You can identify an industry benchmark and pay according to it. Alternatively you decide upon a budget, define bands-levels as [er designation and allocate funds to it.
Here's an example, when your entry level employee is travelling offer him Railway/bus fare and stay at budget hotels. When your managers are travelling, offer them railways and air fare along with stay at 3 stars. Likewise for your seniors executives.
In case your firm has a process for arranging the tickets and stay, offer a per-diem for food. travelling with in the city for work and other expenses. A minimum of Rs.1000-1500 per day would required for metros. Rs.800-1000 for Non-Metroes.
Please keep convenience in mind, as you would like the employee to remain focussed at work. Hope this helps.
