Dear Priyanka,

Employees are developed in real sense when you launch Organisation Development (OD) activities. It is a surmise that whether fun or motivational activities develop employees. Those employee development activities should result in either business development or organisation development. Does it happen? Who has measured it? When it is measured and how it is measured?

I have not come across with specific answer on whether employee motivation was increased because of these fun activities. If employee motivation is increased, then did it translate into increased revenue of the organisation? Earlier there were healthy exchange of views on this subject. I have also contributed in measuring ROI on these activities. Check the following link to refer it:

Let me give you example of FedEx. Check their website and it says that they handle > 10.5 million shipments on each business day. They have operations at more than 220 countries. Famous magazine Fortune, has adjudged this company as most admired company. Do you think that they require motivational activities at their workplace to achieve this feat? No way!

If you wish to conduct fun activities just because that is the norm or fad in your industry then that is a different matter altogether. Nevertheless, without OD activities, employees cannot be developed. If you wish to launch any hardcore OD intervention then, feel free to contact me.

Thanks,

Continued Team Kritarth's Suggestion:- To continue, please articulate / spell-out precisely as to what you and your Management INTEND to gain from the Exercises you have in mind. Once you yourself are sure you shall obtain the Results. My Seniors used to advise " If you do not know where you are going, any road /path will take you there. This down-to-earth advise served me well throughout as Guiding Light and my Organization gained what it intended from any Investment ( time, Fund, positive impact etc). Fun or Motivational Exercises particularly Outbound have their own advantages albeit transient and Not Measurable in terms of Gains. It will be a good Idea to also interact with probable Participants for Some Insight.

Empowering Employees with More Responsibilities, More & Newer Knowledge and Competencies are much ahead of Whatever comes Second on Motivation Matrix.

Before involving the employees in fun activities, it is important to understand what motivates them and what are their areas of interest, else it may turn out to be counterproductive and loss of time and effort invested.
