Myself Shekhar, working as HR officer in an automobile industry in Noida where my boss asked me that can we hold or keep the original educational documents of all employees until their relieving and will give them back when they will clear the dues like Full and Final Settlements, Notice period and companies assets of companies.

However to make it short and simple-- the practice of retaining educational certificates till leaving is highly irregular and not a good HR Practise.
