Hi All,
I'm with an MNC into agricultural sales.
Wanted to know of the various initiatives that can be taken to encourage women to apply for sales roles which involves travelling to rural areas ?
How do we define career path for them ?

Hi, If you are sending your executives to rural areas than incentives, accommodation, Traveling and other monetary benefits may help just to encourage.

Hello Delphibalda,
Would the women sales staff be ONLY travelling to the rural areas or have to STAY there?
Prima-facie, it would be a good idea to involve women in Agri sales.....given that much of agricultural work rotates around women.
IF it's only TRAVELLING--
1] The security aspect would be paramount.....since the transport facilities wouldn't be very good in the rural areas.
2] Another aspect to be taken care of would be the language slang that's a part of any rural environment......quite different from the urban & semi-urban culture. Especially, if you are speaking of Rural areas in West & North India.
3] Timings COULD be an issue that needs careful thinking......since much of the official work time would go towards travelling from village to village....unless you devise some other mechanism to handle this issue.
4] Needless to say, like Priya mentioned, incentives & emoluments would need to be made attractive.
5] MIS processes also need to be carefully planned...with more focus on their practicality & implementability. Some Companies that are active in such far-flung environments have MIS that are solid on paper but get to be tedious for those following/implementing them--whereby the tendency to skip filing Regular Reports is high.
IF you are expecting them to STAY in rural environment--
Frankly, I am not so sure IF this would be a good idea, given that you have many factors//aspects that need handling, like accommodation, spouse's job location, schooling for kids, family entertainment facilities, etc......many of which MAY NOT be in your control.......UNLESS you select those who already stay in rural or close-to-rural areas.
Rgds,
TS
