How you keep and in what medium you keep your records, doesn't matter.Availability of information for faster use is important.Most of the corporate started keeping their records in online archives for security and also use from multi-locations .As of now , there is no statutory requirement however there are multiple certification (ISO 9001, SA:8000 etc) requirements for systematic and quick access of records .
