Dear Himanshu.Saraiya,
Irrespective of the sectoral classification to which it belongs, an industrial establishment has to grant specified number of National and festival holidays to its employees as provided in the State National and Festival Holidays Act applicable to it. Public holidays are the holidays comprising of National and various Festival holidays as declared by the Central and State Governments every year to their respective offices/establishments. In so far as industrial establishments are concerned, it is mandatory to grant those two types of holidays to their employees every year; of course choice is given in the respective State's Act to fix and specify a certain number of festival holidays and get them approved under the Act within certain time limit either from the date of commencement of the establishment or the date of application of the Act. Therefore, pl refer to your State Act.

As per state National & Festival Holiday Act Minimum 5 days of Compulsory holiday should be declared. Republic day, Independence day, Labor day, Gandhi Jayanthi & State Rajyotsava day. After 5 days its left to the management of the company to declare optional holiday on festivals
