Friends,
It is hot. It is serious! Time to act is now!
Safety Officers may be aware of noise and its ill effect. But how many of you have studied about noise and noise induced hearing loss deeply? If you ever took up the issue seriously; what did you do in your industry for noise conservation? What is the outcome?
More than that the nuisance it creates outside industry is grave. Public address systems in temples, mosques and political assemblies and anywhere else causing noise pollution freely and the impact it makes is serious.
There are laws and even Supreme Court judgments against causing noise pollution.
How many of you initiated any action against the noise created around your premises. Or are you just helpless and suffering silently.
Please write your experience with noise pollution at your neighborhood? Action initiated by you or anyone else and the outcome?
I am on to a legal battle and this menace is to be dealt with seriously.
Regards,
Kesava Pillai

Dear Sir

Nice to see you started a thread after a long time here...

Let me share my experience regarding the subject matter...

In most of the industries following things we can find they doing related to Noise Pollution:

1. Providing enclosure to DG - As this is mandatory vide rules

2. Providing signage's at places where high noise level is there.

3. Providing ear plug/ ear muff at places where required - not much stress or focus for the enforcement. If workers feel like, they wearing it.

4. Area specific PPE requirement vide PPE matrix of area/task asking to wear the ear protection.

5. Ear plug dispensers - very few industries start providing.

6. Audiometry as part of annual medical check-up : Very few industries doing all these, among which most of the industries never do a comparison of the result with previous year result and looking for any variations.

7. Ambient noise monitoring - most of the industries doing it due to environment laws getting stringent nowadays.

8. In door workplace noise monitoring - Doing it with Sound Level Meter mostly in-house. Just for the compliance sake. Nothing as like called personal noise monitoring doing by industries. Just taking measurement from various distances from the machine for fraction of seconds and its over. Displaying that result and ask to wear ear protection.

These are the thoughts coming to my mind now with regard to industrial noise pollution and its control...

Regarding public place, not seem much difference in noise pollution with the SC Order. A long way to go.

Look forward to hear the views of others and to take it further...
