Vertigo is a problem which people face. when they view things from a height. All the humans will not have but many... It is due to fear of heights. These tests can be carried out by doctors. You can check up with your local general hospital... It is more psychological than physiological. There is no cure or treatment, except hypnotic / psychoogical counselling.... You can take the candidate to a tall structure, say a 10 story building and ask them to look down from the height. You can ask them how they feel about it .... This is a simple, pedestrian way of diagnosis !

You can also take them to Amusement Park and check whether they are interested in going in Giant Wheel, Roller Coaster ride etc. That is another way of testing whether they have fear or not... it is all in the mind, ofcourse..

@ Parag,
Thanks for sharing this.
@ Annonymous,
There is no legislation in India as of today which mandate you to do Height Phobia testing. Still many companies doing that as part of their internal requirements.

hi to all, i like to add vertigo procedure which we used during DMRCL project. purpose of doing vertigo test is to know/confirm the workmen capability in terms of height phobia, there will be structure of approx 3 mtr or greater, fist thing is that workmen has to go under initial BP Test, these test is carried out by the first aider, if BP is in normal condition, then workmen will be informed to wear all safety equipment/gears and then to climb on the structure and workmen has to walk on the 300mm beam which is installed on the structure, the same walking procedure carried for 3 rounds on the beam, after coming down workmen, again workmen has to undergo the BP test to confirm any variation in the body due to height. If all BP parameters are in normal condition then he is fit to work on elevated activity, if BP is not in normal condition then he is consider as unfit to work on elevated activity.

hi. is there any scientific validation to this test??
A person with elevated blood pressure should not be working at heights, but i feel there is no connection between fear of heights and blood pressure.
Please comment.

BP could vary depending the circumstances oneself is in. Abnormal variations normally associated with anxiety, fear, tension, stress, pressure of work and the mood of self and people in scene/situations. Being in abnormal heights for the first time and subsequently when the person is not accustomed to be sure to cause rise in BP which is fear. Such situation also associated with trembling whole body, especially legs. Sometimes might cause swirling of eyes, head and in some state can cause nausea, fainting. May be such person shouldn't be encouraged to force into such situations. To overcome, it's better to avoid looking down, instead only concentrate on work at the elevated position. However, in due course, if they are accustomed to in such circumstances possible to get over initial troubles.
