Dear Harish,

Please share the job description to your new job and the existing one.

Often the name labelled to a role can be pretty mundane , where as the accountabilities can be diametrically opposite.

Here's my suggestions for you to weigh the two opportunities :

- Compare the day-to-day deliveries. Check on a daily basis what are the tasks you need to complete on both the jobs.

- Look at the line of reporting. You might be reporting to a very senior or the head of the firm in your current. How far does that adds on to your learning. Is it very micro-managed or you have a huge scope to arrive at decisions?

- Find out how the information flows in your new job, and review it with your existing one.

- How about the work environment ?

- Have they offered you a growth plan ? How did the person delivering your role grow in that new firm?

- Is there an employee alumni at the new firm ? Tap into to understand where people from that firm gets hired.

- A new firm offers growth along with its business cycle. Where as an established MNC might have pigeon-holed work functions. This might sound stable , but can get limiting in the long run, if there is no Job-Rotation.

- What do you want to be in next three years, and how far each of these roles can take you there ?

Looking forward to hear from you !

New established firm:
ADVANTAGES
You can get a full view and work on all components of HR job.
Things will be set up for HR systems in front of you giving experience of greatest importance.
DISADVANTAGES
Pay may be lower.
Structured work environment may not be there initially.
Career path may not be clear in the initial years, till everything settles down on the business front.
While working in an MNC has a prestige, higher pay and perks in most cases, chalked out growth path, existing work patterns, etc
The disadvantage is that exposure to all aspects of your work may not be easily forthcoming.
You may get stuck on a set of jobs for longer periods.
For progressing/learning in HR,working in back end operations is also necessary.
So being in backend by itself should not be a disqualifying proposition by itself.
If you have faith that new firm will continue to grow and job stability is not an issue, then work in a new setup for all round learning experiences.
