HI everyone.

I went through various pages on this thread but none of u mentioned SHANTARAM.

Guys u MUST read it and I tell u YOU WILL LOVE THIS BOOK. An autobiography of Gregory Roberts australian criminal who escaped prision and becomes "most wanted man" for Australian police. He fled to India, Landed in Mumbai, lost his passport & money and then starts his story in India and his struggle. Though he was a criminal but I fell in love his book and with him. I dont think everything is a "fact" in his book but whatsoever its a great book.

Following books are also good :

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown (currently reading..its nice so far)

Paths of Glory by Jeffery Archer

Pillars of the earth by Ken Follet

Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh

Glass Palace by Amitav Ghosh

Time traveller's wife (if u have patience only then go for this book. The book keeps siwtching from present to past again & again and u just dont get what the writer is up to! Every thing will fall into place when u move towards the end. I loved the love story of henry & clare).

HAPPY READING.

Anyone who is interetsed in reading hindi:

Mrityunjay is a must read , hindi is little tough but u will understand.

Aanwa is good if u want to read some easy hindi.

Gunahoo ka Devta by Dharma Veer Bharti (rem the author of our school books BAAL BHARTI?) is also good ( but u gotta read it keeping in mind that it was written in late 1950s.)

And those who wud like to read a book which will remind them of the dialogue "peepal ke ped tale ****! aur nadi kinare ******...thandi thandi hawa lagegi..." I would recommed RAAG DARBARI by Srilal Shukla. Let me tell you there is as such no story in RAAG DARBARI but u will find the pettiness of everyday life in rural UP & the rustic humor of spoken Awadhi amusing. It was written in 1968 and still the description of the characters still fits so well when u think about ppl in urban UP.

Once you finish the book... I am sure it will take some time reading and a lot more time digesting it :)...let me know the character you found most impressing... a tough choice to make...
Or may be character you could relate with.

The last line of the last chapter goes like this...... "Sex is not the greatest glue between 2 people.... Love is".........
