Adding to dinesh sir's comment. A typical succession planning is about identifying or developing a successor for a role or a person within the team. Example: x is GM of a group with due for retirement and Y is DGM next level to him. Then Y will be the successor of X. Please keep in mind that Y should equally competent as X and should be acceptable by the team.
