Dear Seniors
One of my employee met with accident in august 2013 and went in to COMA. Since then he is getting treatment and wages through ESIC.
I have seen in the provisions of EPF Family Pension Scheme 1995 that a person with Movement Disability is authorized for Medical/Disability pension.
If, so, kindly advise me how to process his papers.

Dear Mr. Budhpal Singh,
For disablement pension, along with form 10-D a medical certificate (in compliance with format of EPFO) from District Medical Officer has to be enclosed. But minimum disabled pension is Rs. 250 and member pension is Rs. 1000.
Hence it will be better to apply not for disabled pension, but for reduced pension after attaining 50 years' age; in case member is eligible for minimum pension only. Towards reduced pension member will get Rs.721.

Dear friends,
It is very regret to state that the family pension slab and disabled pension are not revised in compliance with the new amendments viz. ceiling salary as Rs. 15000 and minimum pension as Rs. 1000 respectively. I think the Central Trade Unions will give due stress and concern on these vital issues.

Dear Abbas ji,
I am not sure but I feel the disablement pension will be minimum Rs. 1000/- p.m.
I just gone through the notification enhancing the pension to minimum Rs. 1000/- p.m.
According to me disablement pension is one of the kinds of monthly member's pension and the notification says that monthly member's pension including any relief payable to any existing or future member under this paragraph shall not be less than Rs. 1000/- for the financial year 2014-15.

Dear Mr. Keshav Korgaonkar,
You are right. When I asked my friend in EPFO regarding the procedures to apply for disabled pension, he told me the above statement. Usually they know the implementation part and accordingly I responded.Sorry for the mistake.
But ceiling of family pension is Rs. 2051. This introduced in compliance with salary ceiling of Rs. 6500. Even after ceiling hiked to Rs.15000, this didn't get enhance. Accordingly I clubbed the above reply to this and occurred the mistake.

Dear Budhpal Singh ji,
Good question. This was not thought.
Disablement pension under the Employees Pension Scheme is only for permanent total disablement. Person in coma can not be said to be having permanent total disablement.
