I am new to HR and need to write a note on Golden Handshake where I have to inform the employee that his service is over with our organisation and what compensation he will be receiving from us. I need a format for writing such note. Please help.

Dear Sumona Tanjim,

You have not written you are from what country, what is your designation, what is your industry, what is the length of service of the employee, what is his age, why you would like to have golden handshake with that employee etc.

When any organisation does major organisation restructuring, it removes the long-serving employees. This is called as "Volunteer Retirement Schehme" (VRS). In little polished words, it is called as golden handshake. However, their exit needs to be smooth and gracious as well. For this, these long-serving employees are given hefty compensation.

Generally VRS is implemented for large number of employees. However, your case appears to be isolated. Is it restricted to just one employee? If you give golden handshake to one of the employees, then what if few other employees also demand the same? Are the retirement benefits smaller or better than VRS? You need to take holistic view of the entire VRS scheme. Else it may do more damage than good.

As far as writing a format of the note is concerned, you may do it on your own. Some senior like me will correct it.

All the best!
