Dear seniors,

I am a banking professional, with 5 years of work-ex in a large private sector bank. However I took a career break for 1 year to pursue some long-term dreams. Now returning to the banking stream, I have applied for a role with HDFC Bank.

I am pretty excited about the role & have been communicating with them for a long time now, so I can say with confidence that they are fairly serious about hiring me too.

Yet they are offering me a lower pay compared to my previous bank, and also at the same job designation - so no improvement either way. I am seriously concerned about the lower pay, as it can impact my future job changes too.

I am aware that HDFC Bank pays somewhat less in the industry, but I do not know whether the offer being made to me is really competitive, or whether there's any room for improvement.

Please advise. This is a senior manager role. Request seniors/ peers with some idea about the salary at this level to please share some insights.

1.If your previous work profile and future company work profile is same then only you may accept that proposal. but don't compromise in salary, demand more than the previous employment.
2. one's if you will compromise with work profile or salary, both will impact on your performance.
3. If you are ready to work with lesser salary, then after HDFC other company will ask you the reason for accepted the lesser salary, compare to the previous employment.
4.The same question will raise for the work profile also.
5.Do the negotiation but not less than previous company provided you.

Everyone has got different taste and satisfaction level. Some settle for lower package with the eye on job security with big organisations. Some look for better package irrespective of organisation size and reputation. The decision is purely yours and I suggest to take your own stand rather than consulting others.

a) Depends upon how keen you are for the job and the difference between your last drawn package and what is being offered.
b) Also depends upon alternatives you have or your confidence in getting them soon.
c) Many, many people take jobs at salaries lesser than their present / last drawn. Several factors go into that.
d) in your specific case, reason for accepting a job with lesser salary than last drawn is obvious - your keenness to start working again. This can easily be appreciated by any future employer.
e) It is true that your present salary has a bearing on your eligibility for the next job ( which cuts both ways, btw ). But if your performance can be clearly evidenced , even your present employer may factor that in your performance appraisals.

If you have paid lesser than what u have finalized,
The present company may be cheating u,
Otherwise you have to prove that you are capable for your expectation .
Wait for six to 12 month and decide what to do.
