Hello All,
I'm a Human Resource Intern in a small software company employing about 50+ employees with clients in different continents.
I've been handed the task of planning the CSR strategy for the company.
The company has very simple functions that are sales, marketing, operation and technology and the human resource manager wants a volunteer from each of the functions for the CSR activities.
can anyone advise me on how to go about it and what are the different options available to me.
thanking you.

To begin with probably you could come up with a list of CSR initiatives like Sponsor a Primary School for Underprivileged Children, Sponsor a few Personal Computers (may be refurbished) for some community schools, Sponsor a primary health center, run a healthcare campaign in nearest village etc.
Once the list is there, you could seek choice of employees as well as interest towards volunteering. This you can manage using google survey (it is free and simple to user)

And ive initiated a meeting with the site head of these organisations.

Hi,
Select a suitable CSR program for your company as different things move different people.
- Create an action plan designed to motivate your employees to a “Take the Pledge.” to ‘Give back’ - an umbrella term as every CSR program is an effort to give back in some way.
It can be your time, your money or your resources.
- Wellness programs help is not only a noble undertaking, but improves productivity and maintains a positive work environment.

Hi kk 26,
Some good ideas have been presented by learned members.
Nowadays CSR has become mandatory and recently even the budget that has to be allotted
is stipulated as a percentage of profits.
Depending on the location you can take up small projects in the vicinity of your unit.
To get more ideas please type your query in the box WHAT DO YOU NEED and then press the research button.
You will get plenty of threads. Please also refer to the various threads that you see alongside these messages.
They will give you enough food for thought.
After collecting the information, share the same with your volunteer colleagues and then with the top management to proceed further.

Hi Kk26,

We are an NGO organization in education. Our schools are located in villages and slum areas. One of our school which is in Gattahalli (Bangalore 99) caters mostly to students who are from very poor households. This is a State Board syllabus school, with about 250 total students. Currently, we have about 120 students who are from two nearby Orphanage. Every year, the orphanages depend on individual sponsors for their functioning as well as for the education of these students. This year they did not get their expected sponsor, and are planning to withdraw some of their students. We have told them, that we will try to get sponsor for them. It would be great help for us if you consider sponsoring some of these children's education. The cost of education for one student is Rs.15,000 per year (this includes Tuition Fee, Books, Uniform, and Transportation).

This would be a great opportunity for your organization in its CSR initiative.

Please feel free to contact me directly (email id: ), if your company would like to take it forward.

Look forward to hearing back from you.

Best Regards,

Saj

Dear kk26,

Suggestions are pouring in.

At the outset I appreciate your in CSR areas. If I am correct apart from the charity work as a part of CSR you will have other areas which in itself part of CSR. I mean to say that you/your co. will have other responsibilities too. To be precise, as the saying goes, a charity should begin from one's home. I think your co. is located in Delhi. It may be difficult for you and time & money in these activities could be wasted if you think of doing something in a distant areas. Instead you should identify target areas which would fulfill you aims within reach without wasting, it should reach direct to the target group. For e.g. in your own office there could be some grey areas which you might find not socially appreciable. That's to say-provide orderly parking arrangements, segregate your garbage into organic, inorganic stuffs, spread the urgent need to recycle waste and waste management, rain harvesting etc in your neighbourhood, enforce/prohibit spitting, smoking, impress upon your employees to wear helmets, seat belt(remember late Mr.Munde), identify poorer of poorest employee, sub-staff among yourselves try to help their children's education and other needs, try to rehabilitate alcohol addicted employee/friends/neighbours. Improve greenery around your office, try to minimise use of paper. Visit schools of visually impaired and help them in their studies, write as scribe for them in their exams. Also orphanages nearest to you, take a few them to your homes play host to them for a couple of days, care their needs or spend your holiday(s) with them. Collect surplus materials from friends, colleagues, neighbours and distribute to the needy. By now you got more than enough, go ahead pl.

Best idea is : Check income tax / roc dept csr notification. There is a list of approved work/area.
