Hi,

I am a 2013 MBA-HR passout. I have completed my MBA through a full time course from a collage from bangalore, under VTU. Before that I was working for a leading MNC, as a testing engineer for 2.5 years.

Before doing my MBA, I had a perception that having a experience in the IT industry would give a me a edge. But now in the industry, when I am searching job I encounter the following situations

# Only scope for a fresher is a recruitment job in some random consultancy. No IT firm is interested in recruiting HR freshers.

# The job profile I am offered, are offered to any other graduates also (sometime UG also!). Then whats the use of doing an MBA?

# When they see my resume, often I am asked that, why did I leave my previous job as that job was so good comparatively what I am seeking now.

# Salary they offered, is like not even half of what I was earning in my previous job!

Even if I leave out the salary factor, I don't see much hope in terms of the job profile too. All these things have lead me to a very confusing state, which kind of letting me think that doing an full-time MBA-HR, I have committed my biggest mistake in life! I am feeling very low right now :(

I am not able to figure out, is there no good opportunity or I am not able to reach out to them? and even if I take a random consultancy job..what would be my future in this industry down the line 2 years? or I would be stuck in the consultancies only as I didn't manage to get a good break at the beginning of my career in some company? isfactio

I know I am having the dissatisfaction, because I had a professional experience in a flourishing industry and now I see my career not getting upgraded at all..neither in terms of nature of job profile or in terms of compensation!

Please help me with some guidance folks. I need to figure out if I am in the current path or not.

Thanks for reading.

Hi

I could sense your aniexty. But the decision what you have taken is not wrong. Enhancing of knowledge doesnt go in vain. For sure you will get a place as u think in a couple of years but now you have to concentrate on the placement. There are plenty of oppurtuinity in the field, only thing is you have to search with a growing company and not with well estabilished one. Dont give up your hope as HR field is an interesting and challenging one. Try untill you succeed. I know the starting phase would be difficult but you will enjoy the rest at the best. I am not here to passify you, the real trend is like that. I faced the same scenario while i looked out to find a place to start my career. It took 5 months for me get placed and now its going to be 9 years in a same company with a fantastic growth. So move forward with a right attitude and dont consider the salary part. Couple of years later you will earn more than you require. So all the best and run towards your goal, you will succeed for sure.

Secondly, if you are not interested to persue in HR, then you can also consider the testing profile as you have experience in that. There is a possibility of moving from testing to HR in future, So you have to take a call and move on.
