I worked in an organization for exactly one year and the day I completed one year I had put resignation. I stated in resignation letter that I want to pursue further studies and hence want to leave the job. My manager was supportive and showed my dependability as low to the HR department in order to get me out quickly. Now, in reality I got a lucrative offer from a company and I lied about further studies. I left the company, paid the remaining amount for notice period and joined the new company. Now the senior manager somehow came to know about this through his contacts and has shouted on my manager. My manager then to save himself convinced the upper management to put hold my documents. This happened the day I was about to collect the relieving and experience letter. Now that the company has caught me they are threatening not to give the letters. My new employer needs these documents in order to reimburse my buyout and for employment. The thing is my ex employer can put a bad impression on my relieving letter and affect my current employment. I know I should have told the truth for such a supportive manager. I have still convinced my ex manager to give me the documents but he says its all in the hands of upper management and he will not let my career to get spoiled from his side. I have talked to HR and she says the letter will take time. I am in a big fix. Is there I can do other than waiting for the company to reply back?. Please help me.

By documents I mean experience letter and relieving letter.

Gain was your lucarative offer which you got tempted. and the pain is the bad experience your going through. Why dont you people follow some principles and policy.This can sometime leave very bad impression on the CV.I am telling you this because I am into back ground verification Business. If any anew employer asks us to verify we will easily find out the truth. dont do this < I suggest please go to your ex company senior Manager and ask for his pardon and request him to help you out. Imagine what loss the company would have gone through if they couldn't fill your gap on time.

Before I got the offer my manager had already told me he was over resourced. And I have not left the company in the middle of any project. The company is least affected by my departure. Just that I have lied, which I shouldn't have, and they have caught me, they are going to spoil my career.

Put your leg in their shoes, and imagine someone enacted the way you did.
Anyways I suggest try and meet your ex company seniors, and take their help. This is the only way....

Like others have advised, the first step is to say sorry not just to the manager but to his managers and the company HR. Please read and digest the content at Handling a customer complaint - start by saying sorry | Marketing Donut
Unlike some, you have realised your mistake; do not justify it by saying the company is overstaffed, etc. You not only lied but you made your manager look a 'fool' in the perception of his boss. There is a saying in Kannada which states one day or the other a thief will be caught and imprisoned. Same goes for those who lie. They will be caught sooner or later.

I have tried to talk to the senior management but they are not willing to talk. I had a word with HR and she said this will affect your future. They have however agreed to give me the documents but my ex-manager(whom I convinced) has said the upper management may write that I have lied to leave the company on my experience letter and relieving letter.
I took this step because the company makes the employees wait for three months if an offer letter from some other company is shown or they do not give the documents. The new employer was ready to buyout the entire notice period. So I decided to take this step. Although I have discussed this with my new employer and he does not have any problem with this. But I will be in trouble if I go for another job in next 3-4 years.

We all have to live with our mistakes. But owning up to our mistakes sooner is better in the long term. You can tell your future employers that you had lied for the reasons given by you and hope that they will be as understanding as your new employer.
Well it will be like hoping against hope that my reason would convince my new employer. What if I dont show these documents to my future employers?
Cross the hurdle when it comes in 3 to 4 years. Tell them the truth. By trying to hide, you will be telling another lie.
