Dear All,
I did a capital mistake of quitting my job with a reputed IT company, after my marriage and move to the US to be with my husband. I have tried since, to hunt for a job here but in vain. The job market has been bad ever since and especially in the US and now the employment gap has widened to about 2 years. To add to it, I din't have prior US work experience but have worked in India and outside for almost 9 years. Now, when companies approach me here, they back out knowing I haven't been employed for almost 2 years though I have valid work permit and the necessary skills.
Is there a chance that I can get back to working in IT or even elsewhere, both in India or US?

I am a bit confused. Does your husband have American Citizenship? If not, I was told that spouses from India cannot work in the States (I have number of friends whose children are in that position.).
If someone gives job in India, are you prepared to move to India away from your husband?

Thank you for your response Simhan. We both hold Green Cards now and I started my search more strongly after I had the GC in hand. But in 2 years my search has been in vain! Now the situation is, we had to re-think our plans and thought of the option that if I were to get an offer in India, I would definitely take that up provided other factors like pay, etc. and remain in India for a while, before I decide to return.
There is another catch, that being on Green Card, I can be away from US only till a year or so, given a statement to the USCIS, for reason of my visit to India and stay for longer than 1 month. If it takes longer, my GC stands cancelled. Only, I am unsure if my husband stays on in USA, I being the Green Card dependent, would my GC still be cancelled in say, about 3 years? I have to still look up for this.

Be careful, if you fall foul with US laws you may not only lose your GC but also be barred from entering again.

But, my initial query was, is there a chance that I can get back to working full time after this long gap in US or India? What are the chances of this?

As a GC holder depending upon the companies needs you may get a job, if you are honest with them and tell them your intentions, as some companies may save having to get a visa for their employees to send them to States.
I am based in the UK and I do not know the job situation in India. How was your relationship with the old company bosses in India? Did you not build up a good contact network? If you have, then kindly contact them and they will be in a better position to advise you.
