Hi All,

I had been indecisive about my step on joining this organization and in the mid of indecisiveness joined and now want to quit after day 1.

The company is among one of the elite IT companies in India. I have attended day 1 and 2 of the induction program and now want to quit. The HR tells me that if i quit now, when my employee id is generated, they will treat me as absconding.

Now, the company will put me under training for 2 months from tomorrow and if i serve a notice period and resign they would want to recover the training cost from me. Hence, if i continue to work for next 2 months and quit, neither me nor the company would gain anything. I have signed several documents related to the client for which i was being hired and also have signed conduct and other guidelines acceptance.

I am not sure about the terms of resignation as the appointment letter was not yet released and i haven't signed any copy of appointment letter. I am yet to start the training and have only attended the induction program.

Kindly don't post your views on how this can affect my career or things. I just want to quit and why is personal.

Please advise on how to proceed with the situation and shall i report to work tomorrow or not. Also, i have only signed few papers which talked about adherence to certain policies of organization and client and not the appointment letter. I have also signed and accepted a provisional offer letter which said appointment would be finalized with the issuance of appointment letter.

Thanks!!

Dear member
The simplest way is to resign from the services of the organisation with immediate effect. If there is any notice period mentioned in your offer letter, show your readiness to pay the same and have a clean and nice separation. Do not forget to take acknowledgement from the HR on the copy of the resignation letter.
Do not accept appointment letter even if they try to issue you one. Do not attend any training.
In worst case scenario , send an e-mail from your personal e-mail id to the concern officials and stop reporting to work.

Hi Preetam,

Thanks for answering my question. I called and spoke with the HR who hired me and he tells me that they will mark me as absconding and blacklist my future candidature. I am ok with blacklisting but he says even if i submit resignation he would not accept and make me abscond.

I am not sure on how to proceed with this. I have not received or signed the appointment letter and the provisional offer letter said nothing about notice period. The company is Tech Mahindra and the HR is a newly hired guy and i am forced to believe he has very less experience and knowledge. Before accepting the offer i told him about my situation and he still happened to convince me to join.

After joining i understand that he was part of TAG and has now transferred the responsibility to TMG as his role was only to get resource into the organization. Now, he tells me that i should apply my brains before making decision. It's a good learning experience for me but now i want to make sure that i have resigned. Please suggest a short and effective course of action to get out of this mess safely.

I have not reported to work today. Shall i go to the office and speak with some senior HR?

Thanks!

Hi,
Yes, you should go to the office and speak with a senior member in the HR team. Again nobody can blacklist your future candidature unless you have breached the code of conduct of any organization, which would lead you to a criminal offense. You have already mentioned that the person to whom you communicate was/is from TA group. There is always a way to get relieved from an organization. Please, do not conclude things with some communication statement which you had with a team member in the HR team.
As you have mentioned the reason behind is personal and also you are not bothered, if they would blacklist your future candidature, I believe that the reason behind your action would be worth doing so. However would suggest you to think over the situation as job opportunities for a fresher (believe so) is not that easy, considering the market situation now. Good luck!

@Mahesh - Thanks for your advise mahesh, its much appreciated.
I contacted a senior HR and they want me to come and meet and discuss my plans with them. After reading this person's blog : "anikeshkumar(dot)blogspot(dot)in"{replace dot with "." }, I'm now scared to go to the TechM facility. My training was supposed to start today and i have not reported to work.
I think i will send a resignation with an apology to the HR department mentioning the reason and would request them to accept the same. I would send this by registered post with AD and hence will have a proof of communication as well.
I believe that till the time i have not signed and returned the appointment letter i am under no direct/indirect obligations of the organization. I was not issued any asset/badge or anything.
Please share your views if i should do something additional as i am now scared to go to their office after reading the horror story of Anikesh.

Hi,
Considering your mental situation, you shall send in an email as well as a written resignation over a registered post. Also Anikesh's issue is entirely different from your case. He was working with TM for an year and that episode purely supports corporate politics. A thing which is widely spread across all the corporates.
Would also suggest you to send in the written resignation letter, 3 copies to HR, Ops & your immediate manager/supervisor. Please do not mention your name on the cover. Good luck!

Thanks for suggesting my actions mahesh. Could you also tell me what worst can happen if i don't take any action and just end all communications with them?
The HR said they will abscond and blacklist me in TechM and nothing else. I am really not bothered with blacklisting at this time as i dont want to work with TM at all. I am concerned if they will share data with NSR, which i have confirmed they don't from my sources. Apart from this what more liabilities can they create?
Any inputs would be very useful.
Thanks!

To Add: I am not even sure about the terms of employment and the notice period and other details as i never received the appointment letter.

Hi,
The worst is that you will not be able to re-join TM again. Also apart from NSR, remember that the world is small and we might meet up again in this corporate world. It would always be better to avoid our name in absconding list of any corporate, though it is controlled by the HR of the company and not a general body. Resignation letter over an register post would not cost you more.

Thanks for your valuable advice mahesh.
I am going to send them a resignation through post and close it off.
Hopefully, this would be the last case of indecision in my career! I am all set to join an extremely large corporation next week :). I hope these TM guys dont come in my way. :)
