How many minute tea and break should be provided to the employee’s in 8 working hours? Also 8 hours working include break or it is separate ??

Normally 10-15 minutes is sufficient for Tea Break, The 8 hours working does not include any break. e.g. the office timing is 9 to 6 or 9.30 to 6.30 consists of 9 hours which include the break of an hour. It is split like 2 breaks of tea with 10-15 min. and 30-40 min. for lunch.

In my view in a 10 to 6 work schedule, there is no need to give any tea break since the lunch hourcan be between 1.00p.m to 2.00p.m. There can be a tea breakin post lunch session at any conveneint time for ten minutes.

Hi,
Per my view, Working hours should be 9.5/10 hours. In regards with the break timing 15 minutes break in the morning as well as in the evening and 1/2 hour lunch break should be given, as rejuvenating self is also must. This one hour break should be included in working hours only.

Break can be given according to the nature of work but no worker in a factory is allowed to work more than five hours with out taking a rest of atleast half an hour.
Hence, it is batter to give a lunch break of half an hour after compleetion of four and half hour and a tea break of fifteen minutes ater compleetion of two and half hour after lunch break.
In the shift you have mention, one lunch and onetea break can be given. If, you are thinking more based on the nature of work, no problem.

With all due respect to your professional understanding, my view is if 9.5 hrs / 10 hrs working + at-least 2 hrs traveling in metro cities total 12 hrs gone in a day.. Then in such scenario how much time an employee will be able to spend with his family.
Please take into consideration spending quality time with family is also important.

I had often visited the same question on what would be an ideal tea-break time limit and posted the same to my staff. I got varied answers from them but as managment we need to set the rules in a balanced approach. To be frank there is not real need to provide an official tea-break time as we would aspect our staff to be more tactful about the break-time. I woulld suggest that there be no offcial tea-break time but a silent one where the employee would visit the pantry on a need basis just to make a quick tea and or get some quick bite. The superior with in the department should manage the time taken and act if there is an abuse on the number of visitations and time spent in the pantry.

Organizations in the current work enviornment allow and give a lot of flexibility and encourage their employees to be more productive by excersing some freedom and to move away from rigid fixed schedules.

The lunch hour is always excluded from the 8 hour work time and that would mean an employee has to officially work 9 hours a day inclusive of lunch break of 1 hour.

In this kind of informal tea-breaks, the probable risk is that that one one staff or the other always keep making rounds to the pantry through out the working hours and the supervisor will be busy through out the day monitoring and reprimanding the abuse, consuming in the process more tea by himself than others to beat the stress of shouldering this extra responsibility which is not in his KRAs.It is better to ahve fixed tea-breaks.

Hi,
As per Act no worker in a factory is allowed to work more than five hours with out taking a rest of at least half an hour. Break during working is a costly affair. Once an employee leaves their seat it takes time to return to working/ job functioning.
There should be half an hour break preferably after four hours of working and that is excluded from eight hours of working. Work timings shall be for 8.30 Hrs i.e., 09:00Hrs. to 17:30Hrs with Break of half an hour from 13:00Hrs to 13:30Hrs.
To avoid tea break, employee can be provide tea free of cost on their seat/ work place.
By this way employee need not to leave their seat and work shall not suffer.
At the cost of tea, company can save minimum half an hour of working without interruption.
Advantages:
1. Employee is happy with free tea
2. No disturbance at work place
3. Less supervision and more productivity
I have seen this in many companies and also in banks.

Dear Mathur,
I am not sure about the work culture there, but in most countries we tend to give the individual employee due respect and expect them to be productive during wring hours. Some employees may take advantage of this freedom but they can't hide forever. So if there is abuse you take the fringe benefit way...that is no tea-break, rather harsh but this will set in the peer pressure mindset for all to follow.
Anyway you mention KRA, so everyone has a key area and scope to work on and this are measure by performance, the guy who spends too much time at pantry will end up with unfinished work or will tend to incur overtime....this is whene we will have the opportunity for counselling.
