In an organization we make policy and process. If the processes are followed properly and deliberately, it helps to get the things done effectively and efficiently. But most of the time the subordinates do not follow the process drafted by the leaders resulting in delay in work and mismanagement of data etc.
How can leader or manager ensure proper adherence of process by subordinates??

Dear Deepak,

After making SOPs or Policies, you need to train your staffs on how to follow SOP as well. Mere making SOP is not sufficient. It could have been sufficient, however, you need to have that kind of intellectually mature staffs as well.

Secondly, in the training, employees should be told why you should follow the SOPs. This "why' question should be removed from the minds of the employees. For this, insert stories on customer dissatisfaction, breakdown of any kind. People remember stories or past instances.

Thirdly, start measuring the department's performance. Do you have KPIs or KRAs well in place. Do you communicate this measure to all the employees every month? They need to be told also where their department's performance rating stands.

Fourthly, do your managers faith on SOPs? By chance if they are pooh-poohing the very SOPs then why staffs will follow them?

Ok...

Deepak,
Most of the time SoP are made complex. People are not confortable with the complex SoP. Simple and Short is the take away and off course communication and training to the user is important.
