Dear Seniors, If you find your staff/employees (any levels) on any job portal, what would be your HR strategy towards them ? Please share your experience.. Thanks & Regards, Nishant Ghayal
Hi,
First of all job portals access should be given to only HR dept. not to every deparment. So go and talk to our Webmaster's team to block all the unnessary sites for other departments to avoid this problem in future. You can also provide him the list acordingly that which deparment needs which sites. You can discuss with your higher management for the same. Further about your this case i would suggest you to be staright forward and talk to that staff personally as this is your part of job.
regards

Dear Nishant,

It is obvious that any careerist with an ambition would always look for a better opportunity. Just as you have realised, uploading up a resume is no guarantee that employees would leave. Its one of the many early-warning signs, but not a sure shot one. Its good that you have noticed it. You can bring in a change to the result.

You have the option to confront them. However, rebuking them might only shift this under the carpet. Banning the job portals will only push them to actively apply for jobs during their weekly-offs

Please take a look at the profile at which these employees are working. You might find many obvious reasons such as salary hike or a change in the job content, even a lure of a better work environment.

Consider diving deeper than that. The threshold concerns aren't always the deal breaker. There are subliminal issues, such constant friction with the reporting leaders or the client, bleak future promises, life-cycle concerns, great expectations from the next appraisal and so on.

We are certain that you have your finger on the pulse for attrition. Decide for a duration of minimum 3 months, to bring in a turn-around and it will!

Looking froward to hear from you.

Dear Nishant,
It is an early warning sign and you need to understand why this is happening and ensure corrective actions are taken. You can observe, discuss this with staff or have a discussion with the team manager in formal/informal way to find out the reason. It has to be indirect. Direct questions on why have you uploaded or why are you looking for a change will not give you correct answers.
Regarding blocking job portals, it does not work.

Hi Nishant,
(Cite Contribution)'s View is very correct on this subject. This forum gives the positive inputs always.Visiting Job portal by employees is not a wrong thing. What makes you think abt reacting on to this, should have also aroused a question that what makes/ compells the employees to visit job ports once they already have a Job in their hands - the Obivious answer is every body wants growth & recoginition. Here im indicating on retaintion of employees. And as a hr one should see to it that if eployees are satisfied, you will never find anyone visiting portals.
Thanks (Cite Contribution)ji for your clear views.
Bijay

Every word what (Cite Contribution) has said would be mine too.
It may be the first hints of attrition setting in, so keep a watch.
Gives a great opportunity to dig-in to find out at which levels people are putting their profile on the job portals. Juniors will make be looking to join major players or perhaps choose technologies which they would be imagining their future would be, mid-level would mean they are put under pressure by immediate supervisors, and at the senior level you are in trouble as it might trigger more doubts in a lot of minds as to what's happening. You need to explore.

Dear (Cite Contribution), Rajiv, Bijay & Raman,
thanks for sharing your view on this subject. well I am also agree with comment of yours and initiated on some of the topic raised by you. like view their profile on portal so they got the idea that his/her profile seen by HR, on some level got success that they have not update their profile after view but some cases after 3 or 5 months again find the same profile.
Well at the end we can't stop who really want's to go but we can do our best..
Thanks & Regards,
Nishant Ghayal

Well, this is a common thing with the employees as everybody want to improve their professional career and look for better opportunities.
Also, finding the employees name registered in job portals does not assure that employee is going to leaves.
And, if an employee is really want to move you can not stop him but still you can block job portals in your office so that as long as they are in office they concentrate on their job instead of browsing job portals.

Dear Nishant,
You may bring in a policy stating "Any employee before start applying for jobs (atleast those who apply through Job portals could be restricted) have to get the consent of HR" so that you'll have enough time and space to negotiate and retain him/her if he's expected to be retained. On the other hand, you'll also have the option of acting proactive in looking for a replacement. By this there's a possibility of employees become genuine to certain extent in job shifts (I mean overnight shocks can be avoided).

Dear all,
Everybody is at their liberty to step for their growth and recognition. Some keep it as a habit of scrolling in job portals. It depends on the behaviour of the employee. The day one they join in a company starts searching for other job. It is only having the taste of one item after one. We can't help them. But I can say it as attitude problem. This may dammage HR postion. One should always depend on shortlisted data base. Discussion with the aspirant may work out to retain him.
