Dear All Seniors,

I am working for one organisation from last one year, i am facing lots of trouble with my boss. In my organization every employee is allowed to leave on time but every day i have to seek permission. after completing my working hours still have to seek my boss permission every day, and he is very smart, when i smartly drop the message to him, he immediate calls back and ask to wait for very late night and lots of time by not responding to sms, i am sick of this activity, for every weekend i have to work for nothing, he always ask me to work on weekends as per his comments. He said if i am working on weekend than in that case you also need to work, his time for office hours never end till late night 12:00 as well.

Even in winter as well i had left my office till very late evening. Lots of time i had faced lots of issue because of living late . but no one bother no cab facility and although over on incidents they arrived every time late - no one even responds to call .

I wanted to change my job- but my resume has frequent changes - all those changes descried the valid reason for changes. It was never for money and something.

Please help me what i should do next - i have always known as a hard worker employee and- recently he threat me that he will take action against me on replying late to his calls on weekends that why i have use mediator to answer and revert, although he initiate the mediator in between

My boss also said that because of some Sr. manager he is not taking any action against me & now i have been forced to fill my appraisal form which i think is not required, if i am recommended by some one.

Please revert what to do ?

Hi Sakshi_22,
Before I attempt to give you any advice, please tell me:
1) What does your organization do?
2) What is your role and responsibilities?
3) Does your boss have a boss of his own/
4) Does the organisation have an HR Dept/Manager?
Answers to the above will help me to give appropriate advice.
Regards,

Dear Sakashi_22
Could you please provide the country that you are working in.
Most countries have a limit to the amount of overtime that is allowable per month / week, and also most overtime has to be compensed albeit for time off.
Have you discussed this with your HR department?
This behaviour is not uncommon, and it is highly unethical. Please provide me with a bit more information as above and I can assist.

I am not afraid to call a spade a spade but this is a classic case of exploitation. When others are leaving on time why he is asking you to sit after working hours? I don't know when this people will realise that there is something called as private and family life. Yes we do work for money but what is the use of that money if we only work and work and sacrifice our social life. The owners of the company can come at office at any time and can go home at any time. They can even work on weekends because for them office is like a second home. Just because they work till late hours and work on weekends they can't expect everyone to do that. I can understand late sitting at office for few days but if it happens frequently it means something is wrong. If you complete work on time no one should question you and you do have full right to leave on time. It is not written anywhere that you have to take permission of your boss while leaving. In any city in India it is not safe for ladies to travel during night. Will the boss take the responsibility if anything happens to ladies staff in such a case?

My advise will be to take the matter to the HR dept and address your grievance. Make sure everything is written so that you can have a proof.

HR dept should be in a position to solve this problem. If not take the matter to the higher authorities. If still the problem is not solved start searching for a new job where you will not face such problems. This is my opinion and it may change from person to person on this forum and I respect that.

Don't worry life doesn't end here. Nowadays there are plenty of job opportunities. You will get a better offer than this company

Totally agree with Mandy.
Every employee has a right to leave the work place on time. your boss has no right to make you work late evenings regularly. You can address your grievances to HR department in written and if you do not get any satisfactory reply or action your can search a new job.

Hi Sakshi,
What do you think about your complain/concern to the HR department? As you have mentioned that your boss is a part of the Exec team, it may not work, considering that there are no one equivalent to your boss's grade working in the HR department and again if there is someone, that person should raise your concern accordingly. If you raise your concern to anyone outside your department and if the same is not acknowledged or welcomed, then this issue would turn into an EGO issue.
Anyway think wise, if you not able to adjust with your boss's nature and work atmosphere then it is better that you look out for change.
