It would not be proper to say about extension of your DOJ as it is totally depends on your employer only, therefore, you need to visit them personally and tell this that you cant join on the said date as it is important for you both.
Rest all you need to discuss with them directly ..

Dear Priya Mano
Welcome to and Congratulations !!
About your query :
Was there a Medical Examination before joining ??
Or, were you asked to submit a Certificate of Fitness from a REGISTERED MEDICAL PRACTITIONER ??
Was your pregnancy detected or mentioned ??
If this has been mentioned in Medical Examination, then there should not be any problem.
If everything has been documented properly; then you should submit your request along with the required medical certificates including Birth Certificate of the Child.
Canara Bank is a PSU; and as such a Model Employer; and I am certain that your Date of Joining shall be extended.
Warm regards.

Thank you so much for the reply Mr. Rajkumar.
Medical examination has to be conducted here after only.. Candidates have been asked to wait for the mail indicating the exact joining date and venue. I didn't get the mail yet and the problem is I couldn't wait till the last week of june (Tentative week of joining). I need to move to my native place for my delivery next week. Can you pls tell me what shall I do now?
Thanks in advance,

Dear Priya Mano,
I have read this thread with interest. Others have given you good suggestions. As I am not clear about the situation, let me raise some questions. I am based in the UK and hence the questions.
When you say you have been selected in Canara Bank, is that selection based on exam results and/or interview? If it is based on interview, did the interviewer not ask or did you not tell about your pregnancy. If the baby is due so soon, you being pregnant would have been obvious.
As far as maternity leave is concerned, I think it is applicable for people who are employed and not for people who are offered a job but not joined the company.

Dear Nashbramhall ,
I thank you for your concerned reply. I have been selected in that bank through both written exam and interview.
During interview I was just 15 weeks pregnant. So it didn't show up obviously. Now I'm 7 1/2 months.
Moreover Im looking forward for the extension of DoJ rather than maternity leave.
Thanks & Regards,

one thing now i would like to say after sharing more information about you, that you must speak to them if you can visit , and if you dont like to visit due to your valid health reasons, can convey the correct health and pregnancy information to them by writing a letter/email (or by your Husband) and this will be an ethical and professional decision.
Second, as you knows that you still have not joined them but are selected for an employment (With an Indian Bank), you can just request them to extend your Date of Joining with permission (and written assurance from your side) but cant for Maternity leave (which is not applicable and as you been informed by Mr Simhan above).
Also I agree with Mr Raj and believe they can give you this chance and you must submit the Medical/ Health Certificate to them with your request to extend DOJ
Lastly i would like to congratulate as you going to be a proud mother soon.
My all best wishes are with you

Thanks a lot Mr Anil Arora. I thinking about asking my husband to inform them directly... Once again thanks a lot for your suggestions and opinions. They are really helpful for me.
