Do HR professional bodies really make meaningful contribution to the profession and its members? What is your experience and opinion?

Can you be a little specific about your question. It is too vague to be directed in whichever direction.

Do you mean to ask what is the experience with the HR professional certificate or so courses done by some private institutes?

In this case, well I have not done any so I have zero idea on personal experience.

But one thing that I concluded from the different calls that I get is-

1) Most of the counsellers there are actually sales people who would drive you and make you believe that doing their course will give you an easy entry to your dream job.

2) Irrespective of your qualification, they will counsel you the same thing (because perhaps they have been trained that way)

3) They would do anything to convince you as they have their targets to meet.

4) Once a gentleman called me to introduce to the professional training they give and how their certification helps and wanted me to meet personally. However, even after me explaining him that his office is way distant to commute and that it is impossible for me to commute so long, he tried selling me by saying I can do so on Sunday and that I should sacrifice my only Sunday holidays to attend his classes for better future or career growth.

Honestly I believe in one thing.

In order to succeed, one needs to work. If we sit idle, get on degrees on degrees and certificate on certificate and don't work, how would we be pushing ourselves ahead?

Just read a very relevant quote today morning, would like to share since it's quite related -

"A little knowledge that acts is worth infinitely more than much knowledge that is idle. ~Kahlil Gibran"

Hope it helped.

As far as such bodies are concerned would like to cite my experience with it.
I think it was NHRDN membership. One of my prof is a member of this body. The said body was to take a one-day outing (educational trip) to Gyanodaya - Learning center of Aditya Birla at CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai.
It was indeed a worth trip. It was not a picnic, it actually bestowed upon us how T&D works, how do they keep their employees motivated towards training and all the other things.
It was learn on fun wheels. I hope you could understand this.
I had also participated in the National Level Quiz Competition by SHRM conducted last year and qualified to compete in semi final competition. Again the experience was much knowledge sharing.
As about the courses they have to offer. I haven't taken one only for the reason that being a novice I believe I still am not in a position to decide my direction and turn my ship that way. Hope seniors can help.
Thanks for updating my knowledge. :)
