Who is responsible for HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT? HR manager or functional manager- Shaikh Abedeen
Employees are the back bone of every organization and managing them is the most challenging job for the management, Head of the department and Human Resources Department. No one take the role to manage their team members. Head of the department says HR department is there to manger human resources is it true? Only HR department is responsible to manage their team members.
Head of the department always complain regarding their team members like they are not following shift timing, not wearing proper uniform, absent from duty, not working efficiently, team conflicts and many more.
I always share with the functional manager that you are responsible for the management of your team members. HR department will only guide you with the help of policies and procedures. If you are unable to manage them itís your fault you need to learn team management skills as you head your department. I believe if head of the department fails to manage them, then he/she should bring matter to HR department.
For Example: Today head of the department ask me that one of his team members is absent for last three days. I asked him have you enquired why she is absent. His answer is I donít know and have not checked with her. I replied you check with her and if your are unable to contact her then you come to HR department. Then HR department will take appropriate action against her.
If anything happen you cannot bring them to HR department. Policies and procedures are in place; they should ensure it is followed by their team members. Once situation is extreme and beyond their control then bring them to HR department. Now the HR role start will examine the situation and will take appropriate action against the employee.
I would like to know your views for the same as these situations I have faced in every company I have worked. I believe you all have faced the same.
