Dear Mr. Khambe, If Date of joining is 19.10.2004 and Date of Retirement is 31/03/2013, then length of service will be 8 years 7 months 13 days, which will be considered as 9 years complete service.

It is quite simple. Calculate completed yrs from 19.10.2004 to 18.10.2012, ie 8 yrs. Then calculate completed months from 19.10.2012 to 18.03.2013 ie five months. Hence gratuity for 8 years for service upto 31.03.2013. Hope, it clarifies.
Rgds.

Dear All,
If in above case the person was on leave which is unpaid one then,
E.g. the employee takes Leave Without Pay from 20 Nov 2004 to 18 June 2004 then we should/ shouldn't consider the year.
