Hi Jyotsna,

It depends on which domain are you working for Training & Development department.

One is the T&D deptt of the technical institutions like NIIT, Frankfin , Educational Institutes etc. (I assume you are not into that as you did your PG in HR, which I can make out from your query) which is not very much in the vicinity to the profile what you are interested in.

Now, HR also has training & development department which is specifically dedicated for the training purposes of the employees may be fresher or experienced & hence the development through exposure to various programs. Like every other department, HR also has various specializations and T&D is one of them.

Here what really matters is if you're not happy with what you're doing then you must switch to something of your interest. I would not say your 1.7yrs experience would go totally waste but yes there would be a change. HR Generalist profile is comparatively a slower profile then others.

You would really need to be specific about your job details here to know about the T&D career options & corresponding remuneration as it varies by a huge margin.

Training & Development is in fact a specialized area. A HR professional after going through the HR-generalist profile will desire to settle in a particular specialized profile like training , talent management,O.D or I.R or Compensation and Benefits management etc.It is not known as to what are the activities you are conducting under T&D profile i.e whether you are doing core training function or mere administrative work concerning training like compiling some data and why you are not interested in it. You should also understand whether you have clear perception about Generalist profile and why you want to get into it after spending 1.7 years in training profile and what area of specialization, you have aptitude for. You need to spend some time for pondering over these issues to make a well thought -out decision and the experts in various areas here can then chip in with valuable suggestions. You need to be clear as to what you want and why you want it.
