Let's Discuss --
Since temporary Staffing is very common now a days and many of the big companies are marching ahead towards the temprorary staffing
I want to put some questions to the forum:--
1. Person who had worked as a temporary staff or contract will find difficult to get the permanent job in a good company. Is it so????
2. For freshers, which would be better- To go for a temporary or contract job in a good and reputed company OR go for permanent job in a small company????

Waiting for the response....................
Thanks

Hi dsv,

Compliment you for starting the discussion on this topic!!..

Temp staffing is already gaining prominence in India..take the example of the company Teamlease who have grown phenomenly in last two years..as i forsee it it would be so in the future..staffing on temporary basis for certain skill sets as the Business models of the most companies would undergo sea-change as competition in coming future would increase may fold..therefore HR would have to play a major role..as strategic partner to assist the company to acheive the goals..

Not really..it's a perception..what is more important is the skill sets or competencies gained and use of the same by the prospective organizations..

If you ask me frankly..there is no meaning in permanent job or job security!! it would become irrelavant in due course of time..contract job/temp work with good reputed company would be better if the assignment is good or offers one the opportunity to learn & contribute..

At the end of the day..it's all about acquiring skills sets & competencies..leveraging the same to your advantage ..

Hi dsv,
I agree with Rajat on this issue. Of late, the trend of indefinite employment is picking up and many international organizations state the employment period as 12-13 months(contractual) in their vacancy listings.

Hi there,
I defnitely feel that freshers should join the samll companies on a permanent role......this wud not only give them a wide range of experinec but also make them feel important but in the other case whrein the freshers join in to big branded companies(exceptional cases)..on contract it so happens that their satisfaction levels are not up to the mark and at times they are also moved out of the specified roles and responsibilities satated at the joining time.

hi dsv,
even i feel that this trend will catch up soon.
as u said that consultants dont entertain such people..it is difficult for them to get permanenet jobs..could be true.but this is an era of competiveness,we need to constantly market ourselves.
people working as a temporary staff could be excellent in what they do.they have to bank upon their skills, prove that they are worthy and should have valid and convincing reasons as to..why they prefered to be a temporary staff.
as far as your second question goes....i am a fresher myself. if i feel that a small company is giving me a better oppurtunity i would opt for that....if i feel i can learn more as a temporary staff...i'll go for that.
the issue here is the learning, not the nature of the job.

GOOD OR BAD

1.Person who worked...............................will find it difficult to get a

permanent ...............................is it true.

THIS is not entirely true.

IN majority of the cases, it will be a struggle but if you have developed

core competences , you can succeed.

Of the two, the contract job experience may find it easier than the

temporary, because of the negative perception of the experience

gained as a temporary.

IT is assumed and perceived that the temporary may not have

the reliable /experienced competence to perform on the

permanent job.

WHEREAS in contract job, people tend to pack/ develop

competences, knowing well that they will be in job market

as soon as the contract period expires.

=========================================

2.For a fresher, which would be better............................................ ..

FOR a fresher, in genneral, permanent job is the ideal path

for career development.

IT gives the fresher the time

-to be trained

-to learn

-to gain experience

-availability of resources for development

-gain interaction

etc etc

IN the medium term, permanency is not the answer,

but for the individual to get up / go for a career

with a plan.

Temporary or contractual staffing is a short term based assignment, for which a talent is hired. This kind of a hiring decreases the liability of an organization, as these assignment may not include all the benefits which the organization may offer its full time employees. More importantly, since these staffing are for a shorter duration these are primarily outsourced on a vendor payroll. This makes the transition of the talent post assignment hassle free to the organization.
