Dear member,
The diff. betwn ordinary MBA and IIM mba is, they teach enterprise oriented and student will learn the concept and apply in real-time wher as general mba student would flw this after 10 yrs.

The difference is not in so much in the books but in the environment, in the competition between high achiever peers, in the quality of interactions between peers and teacher-students.
You cannot replicate that learning though of course, there could be other ways you can compensate yourself for the learning especially while working. You could be more proactive, take more responsibility, deliver better results and be ready to take new challenges. These experiences would give you amazing learning which a lot of IIM grads too would be lucky to have.

Dear Amina,
Do you ask this question as an educationist or as a practitioner? Bodhi Sutra have rightly pointed it out on the value ads which make the education in IIM so effective . There are professional organisation that you may join where similar skills can be garnered.
What remains to be decided is which direction are you trying to groom , is it for any particular subject in Management or the over all understanding ?

I don’t think in IIM there is specialization subject. They learn all enterprise oriented. In IIM there is no specialization subject like Finance, HR , Marketing. Vaibhav

What are take away's out of MBA. only two things Knowledge and Recognition. Knowledge - it is similar to any other MBA courses and IIM scores high on recognition but importance to HR courses is limited. My suggestion is to join XLRI, TISS or any specialized HR college.
