hi respected seniors. this shweta sinha. i have completed my mba-hr, Calcutta university. 2012 july.

recently i got an employment oppurtunity[off-campus] in MBL infra, HR executive, have to look after pay-roll of 700-1000 employee, recruitmnt as n when needed, and training development part.they said they will provide me training and there is scope for growth and learning.incremnt will happen in 2013 april, but not much, next incremnt will be commensurate with my exprnce.

Its a 1200cr turnover company with good market presence, but they are offering me a CTC of 10000/- per month, which i thooght would be higher, but they said they can offer me this.

but the thing is that, i have asked my faculty n few industry prffsnls , all saying the brand name is essential, so i should join, as the profile n name of the compny will matter. But the salary part is bit demotivating.

I want to know after 2 years , if also i get two increments, i will get 12000 ctc per mnth. but people with 2 years exprnce gets 16-18k some even 20k.. so is it ok to start from so low?

What can i expct after 2 years in this compny, in terms of incremnt. will i lag in terms of salary??? i see hardly i will get 12k after 2 years. i dont know what to do please help me.

I agree that you have to, but please just consider following points:

1) You are a fresher. That is to say you have NO hands on experience or ANY exposure to the realities of (any) industry!

2) You have a "career" to look forward to and to that extent you (every fresher) have to LEARN many things to be successful.

3) Managing a successful "career" also needs aside of competence, achievements, a certain "stability" with organizations that you will have worked with. How does a potential employer otherwise understood that you are good at the profession, you take and defend decisions, you are flexible and firm depending upon the situation that you are handling and your organization's needs?

In any case you have just entered "employment". Change NOW may not be looked at adversely but one would certainly like to know if the reasons for leaving are convincing. This is where you have to resolve your dilemma. Is money more important than a learning opportunity to you? There are no standard answers to this kind of a question. Each one has to answer this question based on individual value judgment! Remember, wherever you go initially you are bound to be treated as a "fresher" only.

As far as the learning opportunity is concerned, remember that in life one learns from "how things should be" and also from "how things should NOT be!" you have a decide what is on your plate and respond on the basis of your desires, objectives, value judgments and even "compulsions!

I am aware that this may not be a very palatable response to a youngster but please give this response a serious thought for your own long term good!

yes i also agree with all of your views seniors, but actually i want to know , is going for only brand , n profile is importnt than my salary, is it such , that if i join at this salary , i would grow slowly in terms of pay/salatry...?

In addition to wonderful reply of Mr Samvedan to you, i also would suggest you join them and learn as much as you can which actually matter for every one. And Yes, company profile/brand name also matters in this regard.
The more big company and brand name, the more good and best salary package and opportunities but learning and hardwork, skills and knowledge are the only weapons that can help you, to Me and to everyone to grab good opportunities by showing the same to the Recruiters.
Moreover, if you are working with a big name in the market which is your first employer, add more good things in career and provide more good opportunites with salary and fringe benefits and other.

1. The company, where you got offer is a known public limited company, right? It seems to be a professionally managed enterprise
2. Brand value of the employer is important in career building. However, more than this, company culture, practices and your exposure are important
3. At least first 1-2 years, do not bother much about what your earning, instead put wholehearted efforts on tasks assigned, learn maximum and improve EQ
Do not carry the image of a FRESHER. You are a Gen X HR Professional and you are going to add value to the company

Industry pays for competence (at least it should!).
With no proven competence (and I do not mean an offence) if the organization is paying this salary, personally I do not feel it is bad especially as I see it, today the salary is being paid for you to use the organizational platform and learn, achieve and GROW simultaneously (at their cost as it were).
If you feel that the salary being paid to you is LESS than what you desire or deserve, it will grow when they notice your competence and contribution anyway! But certainly today's salary does NOT become an obstacle here or in any other organization once they take cognizance of your competence, and achievement!
Don't be indecisive. Firm up your mind and give the task the best you have and you will grow! get it?

Sir starting at 10k ctc will take longer time to reach a commendable salary. like after 2 years , can i expect 18-20k?

Hi sweta, As a fresher, you have know so many pros and cons in HR field. So you need to gather smart experience and then expecting high. So you will start learning and improvise your skills first.
