Dear All
I really need help and suggestion at this point of my career.
What one should do if the immediate boss is biased n doing lot of inequality, unfair treatment within the team. We also know that HR is the best friend of him, we just cant even think to go ahead n tell our pain areas.
I want to know whether we live with these pains n start looking for change else if not than whom to address our problems.

Dear Toshika,
See the problem which you are facing is a very common problem being faced by a lot of employees. But the matter is how you overcome the situation. You need to respond rather reacting to the situation.Either he is gender biased or biased having some regional feeling.Irrespective of all you have to focus on your work and should think of performing far good than those persons who are your boss favorites. If you will perform and try to give your best then definitely you will come to the picture and would be known by your hard work and dedication among your colleagues and even superiors to your boss.Who knows you may get the same position as of your boss after performing well. Then naturally your problem would be solved and you would be satisfied.
Focus on your performance,Show that you have talent to beat you competitors.

Favoritism is common here ever there is a presence of Human. It is not only natural tendency of human being but also one of the psychological requirement processes which makes a an individual get influenced by something which soothes him. And it is like a spring how much you suppress such behaviors that much of chance you will have of it bouncing back.

Coming to the issue of inequality, this need a keen observation. Because just because one appreciate another infront of you, it is obvious you feel low and sometimes emotionally attacked because of it. This does not mean you are not treated equally. Id you are deprived only of the attention of your HR towards you then it is not something called inequality.

Coming to unfair treatment, this is major concern of almost all the employees when it comes to HR and employee relationship. The reasons are many for this, reasons like HR being tempered, who fails to draw the line between his personal and professional relationships, lack of abilities, complexities within himself against certain employees, or regarding knowledge and skill sets, over lenient towards employee, rigidity, over flexibility and volatile, pressure from superior as such..... And these only as individual one shall improve and hardly others may assist him towards development.

Bias, is again a detrimental issue at workplaces. This happens more when you have well know people at work places, when you are more open to appreciation and less or nil towards criticisms, lack of patience and ability to differentiate on a valuable parameters, interest in self portraits, easily provocable mentality, easily being influenced, superior issues, pride and prejudice..........

In lemine, it all looks very easy and bold but they are very subtle and disturbing issues to be taken care by the HRD department. And the employees do suffer because of these no doubt. Many of the times HR will even wont be aware of these matter that employee are suffering or having issues.

So, knowledge of the same is very important, hence one must always inform in an acceptable impersonal manner to the HR whenever you get the chance to have a talks. Do not do the mistake of telling it on the face like hitting a ball with full force, also avoid it during the meeting unless asked fro, because certain Hr take it positives many take it negatively and this leads to the added issues.

If you do not feel like talking to your HR alone then you may write an anonymous latter and leave it his desk, or it may also be signed by many or supported by your colleagues.

Always fix a suggestion box in your department addressing to the employee requesting to resolve the issues and kindly do nit misuse the same for personal grudge and for playing pranks.....

One good thing to do would to talk to hat employee who is a friend of the Hr and know more about their relationship strength and try to use that employee as mean to reach the end by utilizing them, since Hr would be a kind of binding because of unsaid reasons towards his friend and you get what you want through him......

And most importantly, as I have explained it above, try to analyse the matters thoroughly keep aside your emotions you will surely feel better and get the ideas to dig the path......

If none of these works out and HR is beyond repair. directly approach the superior and request for the change of HR as soon as possible......but what ever you do be united and strong.......

(I personally regret why HR fails to understand what is going on around him and try to correct it with positive and professional attitude...... )

Wish good luck....... have a nice day,............

Dear Ms. Toshika Srivastava,

I certainly understand what you're going through. Majority of the situation is seen when the "Boss"/ "Manager"/ "HOD" throughs negativity which comes from the unfair or undeserved conditions and [they are probably attempting to inform and give support, not realizing that they are speaking offensively.] Don't be confrontational, put your ego aside and discuss criticism issues with your boss, and take care that the discussion doesn't escalate into a fight.

You just dont have to go by the negative feeling of your boss. Do not especially become negative with your boss or put your job in jeopardy only because of inappropriate disagreements. Be positive and check three things before you conclude to any decision: Whatever boss said, "Is that personal"?, "Is that permenant?" and "Does that really matter you to your life?". Bosses have have little to do with you personally; it might be just fleeting angry words though which doesn't actually matter you as you are working for your own cause.

The best thing to do is just ignore the bad and counteact your boss' negativity by been positive.

Dear Toshika
I largely concur with the views of Gayatreekar. We cannot expect others to behave in a way that is ideal or exemplary. This does not mean that the boss is justified in meting out unfair and inequal treatment to some members of the team. You should know that we cannot control others' behaviour but we can control our behaviour. Therefore do not react but respond to the situation positively as Gayatreekar suggested and focus on your work rather than on the behaviour of the boss. Try also understand as to what is the reason for his biased behaviour. Sometimes understanding the cause will mitigate the effect(hurt). Many a time the cause turns out to be too frivolous to be worried about. These things are common in workplaces. There will always be some 'blue eyed boys' of the bosses at work places though they won't deliver any thing. So wait and watch for some time. This too will pass along with time.

Dear All

Thank you for all your guidance.

Well I want to share something as my manager is not allowing me to focus on my work ,now on then he is creating hassles. I have already proved myself I am the top performer ,but due to personal loss I tooked few days holidays approved by him.

its really tough when you work hard making organizational goal as our own personal goals and when we need support from organization they would get biased and hearing only one sided communication ie ONLY of Managers/BOSS.

If we put our thoughts infront of management or HR, they would just escalate the matter which will lead you to forcefully resign. So even if you perform well or not ,its all your managers choice to keep u in the system or not .

At this point of time what I can make it out is just be slave to your manager ,if you want to stay professionally happy .ITS SO DISGUSTING

If this is the behavior of HR division, then I strictly believe this divisions should not be there is any organization

I apology if I am hurting. There is nothing to offence anyone.

Please suggest me so that I improve myself before joining any new organization.

Thank you

Dear Toshika,

I understand what you are going through and honestly no matter how much any one says to be positive, the situation does not let you be one.I would also admit that no advice wd help much because what u face is up to u.I would only say its a common yet grave problem and soon you yourself will find a solution to it juz keep the following points in mind:

1 Prioritize what is important for you the job, if yes then you have to be a little patient and if no then be honest with your work here and look for change.

2 What is more imp for u ur boss appreciating you or u being satisfied of ur efforts..i know u wd say one cant neglect the boss even if u are a star performer but here i am talking abt how imp it is...as u mentioned u hv already proved ur mettle then i am sure no matter hw much ur boss is against u othr ppl will definitely acknowledge your worth

3 Always bear that in mind that some people tend to be like that and specially bosses they are their to mk u learn some lessons.ou wd be grt whn it cms to ur job but there is smthn called as PROFESSIONALISM whch can only be inculcated thru experienece..So these people are here to teach u that

4 and lastly dnt worry abt the next job as when u get one u wd be far more learned n professional in dealing office politics..

SO all the very best.....

My suggestion is Toshika must first try do a reality check about the issue and how much its worth on her.

Is it a single issue on which Boss is biased or many? If I ignore it does it bother me?

Sometimes blue eyed employee of a good boss also suffers as he / she is delegated more and more work as boss (without saying to him /her) lays more confidence in his/ her capabilities. Such employees also suffers on leaves sanction as boss feels uncomfortable in absence of such employees.

Having said that whether issues are real, light or serious after doing an honest reality check with yourself, make out an opportunity to talk to this Boss one to one, vent out incidents and how you feel about it and get his point of view.

In my professional experience majority of national, international major, minor issues were sorted out by this method.

In minority cases where, if it continues unresolved, you may decide appropriate action based on other ground realities of your business environment like approaching HR, CMD, or changing job, how much you need/ love your present position etc etc.
