Dear All,
After at about 5 years working in business development i may have a chance to re-enter in Admin professional because I have selected for second round interview for Manager - Admin.
But i am losing my confidence level day by day because my I have familiar with current affairs of admin and also my English.
I had completed my MBA - HR and PGD - PM&IR from distance education. I have experience in General Admin profile for more than seven years but since a long time i am working in Business development i am getting nervous.
Reason of change of my current profile of business development (power field) I am not a technically qualified like a B.TECH & BE. So there is a very hard and limited promotion in future. Therefore, i am looking to re-enter in my real professional field where i can develop my career.
Please suggest what I shall prepare for second round interview of Manager - Admin. You are all requested that please advise me for the same.
Regards
S.Kumar

Hello S.Kumar,

First & foremost, pl FORGET to guess what the interviewer MAY want to ask you--for the simple reason that it's IMPOSSIBLE.

Suggest focus on your ORIGINAL strengths [BOTH inherent AND the ones gained by your experience] & then try to CO-RELATE with the present opening of Manager - Admin.

For one, I can see that good communication skills would go a long way in handling typical Admin tasks--something that you must have definitely gained from your business development exp.

Secondly, in most business development people would have people-handling skills--something that's a MUST in an Admin role, EXCEPT that the target would be different [in business development roles it would be clients & in Admin, it would be employees, contractors, service providers, etc].

Next, generally most business development people inculcate the ability to handle tricky/unexpected situations--meaning they have high 'presence of mind' vis-a-vis others. This is another trait that's valued for a Admin role--especially if it involves interactions in an unionized environment.

And to top it, you already have past exp in admin roles. In a way, your business development exp ought to ONLY ADD VALUE to an Admin role.

There's one thing you may also need to put your efforts into: recap the legal aspects--various Acts/Laws related to an Admin role--since one can't predict what the interviewer MIGHT ask, focus on the most prominent/regularly-used ones and if asked something you aren't familiar with, you can assure that you can recap/learn it fast, IF the situation demands.

Another query that COULD be asked is: Why did you move from Admin to business development roles--pl be prepared with a very appropriate response.

If you do some brain-storming yourself, I am sure you would come-up with some more points you can focus on.

Just do AND give your Best & then leave the Result to Him I guess.

All the Best.

Rgds,

TS

Dear Mr. S. Kumar,
You may need a huge dose of self confidence to be cultivated to land in an interview for a job of your dream. You shall follow simple steps like:
- Practice positive self talk, repeat affirmations or true statements about yourself before the interview.
- If you are nervous, call supportive people and get off the low feeling from you. Avoid or limit any number of dealings with negetive people who criticize or put down your goals.
- Take 10 minutes of breather and imagine yourself celebrating your accomplishment.
- Describe positive events in your life to yourself and see that you could do a load for your job that you would choose.
- Read through what you can do if you get this job and please your officials when you get this job, this would definitely give you a strength of will power in you.
Hope if you try these you would be a frontrunner. Good Luck!!

Dear Tajsateesh & Sharmila,
This is very fruitful advise for me by you and thanks for the same.
I knew my week points wherever and understand about it specially as you refer of legal /law and contracts.
As far as my confidence level in respect of admin work is full if i selected and i believe that I can come over my all weak points
I just remembered that the interviewer asked me some contract law and wages OF current affairs. when I frankly replied that since a long time i am not in touch so i have no idea. But i gave our support staff salary detailed.
Therefore I am once again taking to liberty to ask you of some important legal aspects, acts / laws & contract, service whatever are in current affairs & routines like
For ESI rate of contribution is 4.75% for the emplyer and 1.75% for the employees.
For PF is uniform 12% for both. Employee has a choice for additional contribution.
Please advice accordingly
thanks & regards
