Hello Mr AVS,
Good to see you post a quote after a lull period.
It is certainly an appropriate one from a strong man – one of those few
who had the distinction of serving their country successfully in both the World Wars.
It was no easy challenge and when he became the Prime Minister of Britain,
he said he had nothing more to offer than blood ,
toil tears and sweat for his country.
Like other European Nations, Britain was in the receiving end as
Hitler’s NAZI forces relentlessly bombarded his country.
Even in the wake of adversities he held his morale and courage high by vowing to fight the
enemy in land or air or anywhere.
He did finally get his (famous V for) Victory .
Thanks for giving an opportunity to a nostalgic ride through the pages of History !!!

Hello Mr Raghunathan
Great to see your fine reply as usual. I always admire your fitting reply to my threads.
Yes I agree with you about the greatness you have mentioned about the great Churchill.
He was one of the great personality of the last century with a tremendous courage.
It was this special trait has kindled me to post his quote in my thread.
I am really grateful to your sharing a new dimension to my thread, though it was an activity of copy & paste for me.

Dear Sir,
I do respect Churchill for his never die attitude. Here I would like to quote a prediction/prophecy he made for India before Independence.I read this in Times weekly.
Liberty is man,s birth right. However to give the reins of Govt to (he named a particular party) at this juncture is to hand over destiny of hungry millions into the hands of rascals, rogues and free looters. Not a bottle of water or a loaf of bread shall escape taxation. Only the air will be free and blood of these hungry millions will be on the head of Mr Attle.(FYI Churchill was never in favor of Independence of India) India will be lost in political squabbles ....It will take a thousand years for them to enter the periphery of philosphy or politics. Today we hand over reins of Govt to men of straw, of whom no trace will be found after a few years time.
With the grace of God we are moving ahead despite odds.

Dear Sri NJ Bhat

Your remarks on Winston Churchill is an oft quoted one in the

'Letters to Editor' columns of leading dailies.

Certainly no patriotic Indian would savour those sarcastic remarks.

As you may be kindly aware Churchill had many facets and the thread

is on the ‘courage’.

The British people had faith in Churchill as a “Situational Leader”

and no sooner than he bailed out his country, he was unceremoniously shown the door.

British people did not believe that he could govern in the changed scenario.

At the time of India’s Independence Clement Atlee was the British Prime Minister

and he was responsible for the decision.

There was no love lost between Churchill and Atlee.

It was no wonder that Churchill disliked the idea of giving freedom to India (Atlee’s decision).

Churchill had made some stinging remarks on his successor Atlee.

Two of his incisive statements on Atlee are given below:

A sheep in sheep’s clothing.

A modest man, who has much to be modest about.

Churchill perhaps had a hidden agenda when he made those sarcastic

remarks against Indian Independence.

To add to your last optimistic note it is indeed a matter

of pride that India is becoming a force to reckon with in many spheres

inspite of multiple challenges.
