Hello Everyone,
This is my first discussion. I have recently moved to a career in training and development. I have a bachelor\'s degree in Hotel Management and work experience includes hotels and marketing. I am working with a company as a freelancer trainer teaching basic communication and work place skills. I feel a specialized degree in Training and Development will add more weight to my resume\' and learning.
Since I am married its not possible for me to do my MBA so I was looking for a long distance program like ISTD...
I request your views on the same...

Hi

You have correctly stated that doing a formal course from ISTD or a well structured TTT from reputed institute would add more weight to your resume and learning. In my view you have the necessary strengths especially communication skills and work experience to make that transition to a good trainer. My suggestion would be to do a TTT to get a quick hang of how corporate training is structured and executed. If possible also invest in attending a few training programs as a participant to learn, assimilate and appreciate the finer nuances of training.

The real challenge for you is to prepare your own training modules and then finding the opportunities to take training. My suggestion here is to try and take a few sessions of short durations for MBA Institutes, Rotary Clubs, Post Graduate Classes and the like so that you can get the necessary practice, feedback and confidence to take a day long sessions. Do remember that you would have to keep updating the program to include humor, relevant exercises and activities to engage the audience and share updated information from reliable sources to reinforce the learning.

If you have the time and the inclination you can do the ISTD course to strengthen your resume.
