Lastly, I second Mr Divekar having the same concern. And Mr Divekar, please do never feel or think how other will take your suggestion/feedback/opinions or in what sense bcz you as well as every member of this place has the right to say what development and changes he/she want for our esteemed place Cite/HR. I really appreciate and respect the feedback you have provided.

Members never try to go “reSEARCH” ” option or at side bar of our Cite page for “Related Topics” even after reminding and asking them to use it or Google once, and the problem is still going on. Sometime they come with the excuses of being new member on the forum, which is a very immature statement, and becoming a problem. I do not understand how an educated person who is using computer and technology can deliver these kind of statements, as they are not so naïve and aware of these options and using many times in their daily life.

There is an option/solution I believe can help us in this case if can be developed.

“Before posting a query/question, there should be an Alert Message /Dialog box, which will ask the member to confirm whether the content been searched before submitting the same or not”

See the very important element of composing any message, which everyone (New/Old member) has to use before posting/submitting a query/message/question, is SUBJECT LINE, which can help us in this case alot.

For example : If I would like to ask a question or have a query about “Termination during notice period” which has used as SUBJECT line/tittle of my post regarding the Notice Period and Termination, the system (Like MatchCASE) will discover the same and ask the member to go for search before posting or go for “Related Topic”. Which will also be the option located besides SUBMIT. We already having an option of “Related Topic” at the side bar which is a good and helpful option but still are not getting recognizes or can’t be used for new POST, therefore, this can be a good solution methinks

For sure, this will be a first step and many people will skip this confirmation step but still can be a really helpful option and atleast give a message to member/user to go for search once for the content before posting enable us to avoid duplicate/multiple discussions on a single topic.

With closing of my this response I would like to express my thanks again to all the members, Moderators and Administrator- CHR (Mr. Sid) for having this discussion to make our CiteHR BEST and professional place.

Reg your comment: ‘…….. need to understand how to identify these sector and encourage the users to mark their threads appropriately’--I don’t think this will be a one-time affair—it would, in all probability, be a continuous effort of adding sectors/sub-sectors for some time to come at least [once this exercise is started].

To begin with, one way could be to segregate @ the broad-level from the threads already in-vogue, like Information Technology, Engineering, Educational, Construction/Infrastructure, Law/Legal, etc.

What you mentioned reg "power of suggestion" is very true—after all human beings are the same all over. Only the add-ons vary from one region to another—depending on the education, social/cultural experiences, family guidance & such factors.

I have seen the very same ideas/principles used in warfare ages ago work in day-to-day activities—with only the scale, objective(s) & participants changing. If anyone is interested, he/she can read the following books: (1) ‘Strategies for Marketing’ by Gerald A. Michaelson & Steven W. Michaelson (2) ‘Sun Tzu for Success’ by Gerald A. Michaelson & Steven W. Michaelson (3) ‘The Art of Spiritual Warfare’ by Grant Schnarr—ALL OF THEM based on the base/primary concepts as complied in ‘The Art of War’ by Sun Tzu [2,300 yrs ago].

This is akin to the use of The Bhagavata Gita for guidance in multiple spheres of living—albeit on a far grander scale. To give a small peep into the logic/reasons of this timeless masterpiece, The Gita was expounded in the middle of a battle-field—NOT in some townhall or forest. If it were just a spiritual/philosophical erudition, what could have been HIS purpose of expounding it @ Kurukshetra? Noticing the hesitation of Arjuna to fight the battle [despite being the main pillar of the whole Pandava army] after seeing his kith & kin on the enemy-side, HIS intent THEN was to MOTIVATE Arjuna to fight—that certainly wasn’t the time or place for discourses in philosophy. And today, The Gita is more synonymous for philosophy than anything else.

I guess this is digressing from the main topic.

Frankly, I am NOT surprised by your comments ‘………..idea that I run this community is in itself strange………..’.

That’s what one would call 'fate' or from a scientific perspective, ‘serendipity’ I guess.

You are very right when you say ‘…….I am sure we will find exact concepts with which my brain got wired……………’. When we leave things to Nature [some may prefer to call it as ‘Leaving it to Him’], that would be the result—invariably enlightening, enriching & very often tough-to-believe.

My life too had a similar pattern--an Electrical engineer by qualification, by experience switched over from Electrical to Power plant Control & Instrumentation commissioning+operations+maintenance, then over to Computers Customer Support & yet again to Real-time Hardware Design [for defense/military] & see where I am now? All the skills I learnt during the different phases of my career were but the building blocks in terms of understanding human nature, issue/project management, etc—while I was passing thru all those phases, I very often wondered what was happening to my career without apparent connections, but looking back & connecting the dots, it does make a lot of sense—He was preparing me to handle people, their careers & the associated issues. And this wide & in-depth exposure in different fields has become a major asset in my current work as well--in a way, all that was preparatory for my present.

And I do believe that it's so for everyone--only if one cares to notice the subtle nuances & flow with the tide rather than against it.

While Indira does have a valid point in enrolling SMEs, I agree with your view-point—we need to work in such a way that THEY COME TO US, not the other way round, for the simple reason of what you mentioned. When we invite them, from their perspective, it would be ANOTHER WORK/ACTIVITY for them--so obviously they would prioritize from their perspective. If they were to get attracted to CiteHR, it would be THEIR call—but how we make this happen would be the key I guess [one reason for my earlier suggestion to incorporate backlinks in Technical Forums/Portals].

I agree with Dinesh Divekar’s remarks, although I think I would differ in the approach to tackle the issues/problems he mentioned. I think it’s WE who should handle them, rather than in-toto expecting the new members to follow the laid-out rules. Like the saying goes: What the other person does or doesn’t do IS NOT in our control. What’s in OUR CONTROL is OUR RESPONSE to it/them.

In general, human nature tends to take the easy path—age/experience/education/nationality being no bar to this part of human nature. When someone doesn’t want to put-in a minimum effort to see if a particular topic was discussed earlier or do a Google Search, the System ought to enforce it--if need be, in a tough/firm, but positive, manner.

To elaborate, taking the very valid issues Dinesh mentioned-- ‘quality of discussion’, ‘many members are lazy’, ‘………..what problems they faced while implementing that knowledge………’: rather than to expect new members to improve OR to expect senior members to correct every such posting, why not ‘automate’ the process [thru necessary changes in the software]? Whenever someone posts an issue/problem related to, let’s say, late-coming, he/she could be asked to FIRST check-out the relevant earlier postings related to the subject & display them on his/her screen—BEFORE he/she is even allowed to do the posting. Anil Arora's suggestion in this context would fit-in rightly I guess.

This would slowly, but surely, bring-in a sense of responsibility to those who do the postings.

However, looking at the quality of the postings in CiteHR from another perspective, I think the focus needs to be on ‘how to correct’ those who are posting inappropriately rather than ‘prevent’ them from participating in the Forum, for the simple reason that the role of seniors ought to be to guide/correct them rather than criticize/prevent participation by such HR professionals--the later part being reserved for the extreme step.

Thanks for your comments - it really helps when members clearly express their opinions and I would like to extend the discussion to take your views on my outlook towards this issue.

You are correct in saying that not many members are keen on the knowledge sharing aspects. Some time back I reviewed the linkedin Q&A section - the Q&A section itself seems mostly filled up with linkedin usage queries or with non-sensitive issues. LinkedIn Answers - Home | LinkedIn

One of our main USP's is that we allow anonymous screen names - which we hope will help users ask sensitive questions without being afraid of being identified. On the contrary your linkedin profile is somewhat a space where you build your ego - the number of connections etc. Naturally the people who participate in the Q&A there are inclined to fine tune their answers quite a bit. I know because when I participate in Quora where my name is displayed prominently - I make sure there are no spelling errors.

In that way linkedin and our space is very different - people will never like to mix the sensitive and the non-sensitive, because of which we are not very worried about linkedin Q&A as a competitor. Even if they someday allow anonymous questions - I personally won't be comfortable mixing that profile with my business contacts.

And then there is this issue of ego kicks - we try to provide none whatsoever. We do this mainly to encourage users to post for a reason and not just for those counts - as it gets addictive and a lot of useless posts surface as a result. It's also against my general outlook of how I see a community - I don't believe in a community where it's about numbers and ego kicks - I don't think it can be long lasting.

But this also creates an issue, without these metrics users need to get motivated, purely by their will to help others. We don't provide any stimulus to do this - and while I strongly believe this is how it should be - as points and credits eventually loose meaning but a connection with the "network's cause" won't dwindle easily.

But for the sake of recognition we will be adding something called the "Acclaim" - this will let senior users give acclaim to new members by posting real positive feedback on their posts. We will also create a profile page to organize each user's contributions.

I would love to get everyone's thoughts on this and would love to know your primary motivations for being here.

Thank you for your kind comments. This is not a testimonial for me but for the community itself - we need to recognize that. The reason why Cite.co is so useful is because of the people who have come together to form this community. I have always been a background aspect of this network and always intended it to be like that. Initially I was worried that a presence of a business leader may be important for a business site to grow but I realized later that a lack of it actually helps keep the focus on the cause - which is to grow together and help each other.

Yes, we are growing very rapidly - at about 2600 new members a day. I eventually hope to make myself redundant to this organization and let it grow organically giving the power of moderation and maintenance to the members who are most liked in the community. The process of automation will begin soon.

Thank you for sharing the story about your friend - I think it's very important that old users encourage the new users to share their experience, even if they do so anonymously. We are also trying to encourage business owners and service providers to share their expertise while promoting their businesses via signature links.

Regarding the jokes and poems in the Humor section - those threads are completely isolated and will eventually be moved to a new domain called citefun.com - it's in our development road map.

Yes, it's quite strange how we land up somewhere completely unexpected - and the same will happen again as we go into our future. I am a bit of an agnostic - while I respectfully do my duties in pujas - I am of the view that our god is a coalition of all our consciousness put together - but I guess any claim is only a theory. Strangely the same idea reflected in our about page when I wrote it - and this was before I came across this study.

I completely agree with your comment - we need to educate the users about how to use the network and what it is for. Since the beginning I never liked discouraging people when they put their post in the wrong forum or didn't use the search. These things become a barrier in their minds and stop them from involving in the community - which is the most important.

I think it'll help once we have given more control to the users - then they will be able to move, edit the threads to make them proper. The change will be made after we introduce the mentors program.
