Would you be able to provide some guidance/ suggestions around measuring productivity of new employees or any metrics or model around time that a new employee takes to become fully productive?

This is best done with some knowledge about what your employees work on and how are they quantatively (& qualitatively) measured.

Actually, the metrics are provided by each line function Head (i.e. department head) or COO since he best knows what work to expect (technically or in operations) from his own staff and managers.

HR needs to sit across with each such head and for the measurement metrics. Based on the type of metrics and productivity desired, a format can be developed to suit the Company. Productivity metrics will differ in Companies in different industrial sectors.

Some examples of basis for developing metrics in a IT Company are :

1. To calculate the cost of the project vis-a-vis the time estimate

2. To calculate the number of lines of coding (LoC) for programmers

3. To calculate work-hours spent on a project

4. To compare dollars spent per line of code to dollars spent on defects

5. To measure certain complexity handled per unit time

6. To meet deadlines/turnaround time for specific types of transactions

7. To achieve function points developed per unit time

8. Number of defects detected (for testers), and fixed (for developers)

9. Turnaround time for fixing defects of a given degree of difficulty, etc.
